Autonation Chevrolet in Gilbert.  My sales person was a really nice kid and he was crushed when I had to walk away.  It was the weirdest car buying episode I've had and I've had a few.

Was it a huge discount? I feel like they should have just honored it. I've been eyeing them and they do have good prices on the website but now I'm leery of them.

$4,000 was difference, a huge amount to me.  They offered to meet me in the middle, but their price when I got there wasn't what was on their own website and autotrader.  I honestly feel it went sideways when they found out I was an out of state buyer and would probably never be back to the dealership again.  It all worked out, I really wasn't looking forward to a drive from PHX to DFW in a new truck.  I was already in the area visiting family so I didn't make the trip solely for the truck.

I realize you don’t want to drive to Michigan, but take a look at Feldman Chevrolet in Livonia.

 

I bought my truck there and they lived up to the prices posted on the internet, if you qualified for the incentives which were clearly noted.  From my point of view, I didn’t qualify for one of the incentives which was $2,000.  I still got close to that by having them add a step and then got them to split the $2,000.  I mean come on, if they post it, they’ll sell it for that or less.  Problem with a 2019 right now is that it’s too early in the model year plus it’s a new model for them to heavily discount.

 

I got a really good deal on my 2018 on the Black Friday sale.  Need to be patient for the best deals. If you want it more than they want to get rid of it, you’re gonna have to pay up.

A salesman I'm working with is thinking they'll increase incentives once the 2018s are gone, but they're still producing them until summer, right?

Earnhardt Chevrolet in Chandler, AZ has $9k off crew cab LT. Which comes out to 20% off MSRP. I've only been looking for a month so it's hard to tell if it's a great deal. For now I'm waiting it out.

You won't see the real incentives till around oct/november. Everyone buying before then is literally paying upwards of 5+ grand extra to have the truck a few months early in some cases. That is almost an entire year of payments and is why it is not worth buying a 19 right now unless you just can't wait.

I'm assuming only incentives on a 2019 in that timeframe? Right now a 2019 Silverado crew cab LT is $35,800 in my market. In your opinion would you expect them to drop to $31,000? That would make the pricing as aggressive as the 2018s right now.

They have dropped large incentives every year for as long as i can remember. Gm clearly does not want to price their product realistically which then creates owners who have paid far to much for their trucks imo and are left holding that bag when incentives hit, and they will hit at years end to clear inventory space!

Thanks for the insight. I've only been tracking the prices for a month now. I wish someone collected prices year over year so I could get an idea on how much prices drop on previous year models when the new year model is released. My goal was to snag a 2019 when the 2020s are released in I'm guessing July/August, but like you said it will probably be months after that before the prices really drop.

Per your advice and pointing me to the website, I went there this weekend and they had more 2019's then I've seen yet.   I saw probably 4 High Country trucks and a couple of LT's with 4 inch Pro Comp lifts on them.  No one seemed real excited to help but I left my name \ number with a guy named Nick to see if he can drum up the truck I want \ pricing.   If I can get that pricing on an a loaded LTZ I'm in!   After hearing about the shady deal from Autonation Chevy above I don't think I want to go through that hassle now.

Seeing that Dodge is outselling them now and they are in 3rd for sales they better reconsider that strategy.   Dodge (while I don't care for their trucks) knew Chevy wold stay high on pricing and probably tookk that opportunity to get more sales early on instead of waiting until the end of the year to battle with Chevy and their new model incentives.   Bad planning on Chevy if you ask me.  They are selling older 18's at a huge discount and both Ford and Dodge are taking $10k off sticker all day!   They aren't going to sell many of these 19's!  Ford and Dodge will get the majority because of this in my opinion.

Looks like Ram outsold the Silverado in 4Q 2018. I'm sure that caught somebody's attention in GM headquarters. Therefore, the increased discounts that started early January.

Of course.  A year-old truck is worth less, you should expect to pay less.  Resale value is definitely lower.  Even if you're buying it "new", as soon as you drive it off the lot it's a year older than the 2020 that it was just sitting next to on the lot.  It's just low-mileage, it ain't "new".

 

In Oct/Nov my year-old 2019 is also going to be a year old, but I'll have gotten to enjoy it for the year at least.  Yeah that has a cost associated with it.
