Welcome to the club.  This has been known.  They are not 100% the same.

Who cares?  I used to haul windshields made by Ford glass plant to Chrysler.   I used to haul wiring harnesses made by American Yazaki in a plant in Mexico to various GM plants in U.S. and Oshawa GM plant in Ontario Canada.   Izusu is behind the Dmax.   Lear makes seating, interior components, and even valves for various engines.  They even made most of the components for auto trans in Cadillac lineup.   Would haul to the plant in Marshall, MI.  

 

The idea of an OEM using their stuff only has been a myth for several decades.  There has been a lot of sharing between OEM’s and most of any production vehicle is outsourced to 3rd party manufacturers.

The Chevy and Dodge 1-ton axles are the same, by AAM too.  Economy of scale.  My 1980s Buick had a Bosch fuel injection system made in West Germany.

If all the parts made in Japan were removed from a Harley it wouldn't run. Wouldn't even roll. And I still love them.

If GM produced every single product that they sell the price would be out of our reach. 

 

Better to source from a company that already makes said product, just make it to GM specs.
