Careful Grumpy.

KARNUT, TXGREEK; take a breath and give it a closer look. I did not make a statement. I asked a question  :uhoh: after offering assurance that I in no way felt inferior to anyone. No better mind you but absolutely not inferior. The question thus makes perfect sense to ask, does it not?

Yeppers...here is an article that explains the difference really well without the possibility of offending almost anyone here as they don’t mention brands that are commonly used here in North America...

https://www.aussiev8.com.au/motul-lubricant-specialists/69058-motul-difference-between-100-full-synthetic-oil.html

Good write up as writeups go. Broaden you search and you might find that each marketing company has something similar and yet not identical depending on the point they would like to make. I often wonder if the amount of money spent in lobby to keep definitions legally vague is actually beneficial to them. Sort of screams, "I'm a LIAR" doesn't it? There's a rock to base trust on.

The study of wear (while in school) was quite an undertaking. The ideas are simple enough but the circumstances in actual practice are at best, once again, vague. Ask what alloy a cylinder liner is made, I.E., of or what it's treat is and it becomes something akin to asking the magician for his secrets. Worse, asking the wife what she thinks about your...

Odd or not this sort of information was standard in Chilton's, Clymer, Hayes type manuals and often freely given by the manufactures themselves. An inquiry into lubrication without this information is at best metal gymnastics for the sake of the exercise. So...what to do....not even the GM trained Good Wrench guy is privy to this anymore.

Common sense says to error on the side of caution. To me it matters little that materials, treatments and machining has improved X fold if X remains undefined. Better is not quantitative. No difference if 'better' references oil or material or load. Unknow is unknown. Especially when any standard is standing by itself. Twice the compressive strength sounds good until you find the application is thee times the compressive force it use to be.  Turbo 2L and all. Such is the world we live in. It created itself. So.....

Sounds about right.

Early and often when new. I use a trusted oil such as Valvoline or Havoline and quality filter to the first 5K mark. Then my standards QSUD or RL after that depending on the length of time I expect it to be in service.  I've never lost a motor to an oil related failure...ever...for what that is worth.

And yet you had to continue your futile effort to change our minds...I don’t care if you change yours every 50K or never. I’ll change mine when I please if that’s okay with you? Until you analyze my piss you can’t back up your statement [emoji16]

My father in law thinks he knows everything, ex Exxon engineer, he’s had multiple cars in the past 20 years, all of them burning oil and having issues. Mechanic found the piston issues in one of his engines was gummed up from not using correct engine oil with proper detergents. I finally bought him a new Yukon, it’s serviced every three months with oil changes and fluids etc and so far so good. He still blames the mechanics not knowing what they were doing lol. Poor guy, think he’s lost it a bit. Likes to sit around telling everyone what and how to do everything. Only time I see them is when I bring them gifts, and then immediately says “save your money” which I then said “ if I didn’t buy you these things you wouldn’t be so happy” he actually agreed. We do love our Makers. God I hope I don’t start to annoy people around me when I get old. Life’s lessons......

2-3 whiskeys a night is supposed to be good for the heart but more than 10 a week bad for the liver. Luckily you only need part of the liver but you need the whole heart. I usually do about 5 a week, no not all at once.

Yeah, when I can hide my own Easter eggs, I’m gonna just find me a coloring book and shut up, assuming I can find the crayons ?

It's my understanding that the liver can regenerate it's self.

When I see a change, I pay attention. My oil went from a nice honey color to a darker and darker color. I’m not going to just ignore that because someone on the forums is telling me it’s all okay. I agree changing it every 2000 miles is excessive but there is no way I could or would wait for the OLM to count down to 20% on a new engine...never ever! You do what you feel is good and I’ll do what I feel is good and we both win ? If my piss kept getting darker, I’d go see the doctor. I’m 58 years old and never had an engine fail on me due to oil neglect so I’m gonna keep doing what I’m doing until they make a car that runs off Dilithium Crystals and it takes me to where no man has gone before...0 to 60 times are gonna be amazing ?

I will take that challenge to 88 miles per hour in my plutonium powered DeLorean! Forward or reverse (time, that is).

My parents came to America as immigrants, father fought in Korean War in order to become an American citizen. Worked his ass off, building businesses while taking care of a large family. I broke away from the large family business because I didn’t want to live in my fathers shadow, I am my own man. Opened my own businesses, bought and paid cash for my first house in an upscale Houston neighborhood and currently contracted with multiple AAA rated affiliates. I don’t care what anyone does with their money, it’s theirs to do with as they please. Buying a 70k or a $200k + vehicle doesn’t mean that’s what the DO price was but the point was to show everyone just how uncomfortable a few get when someone buys a pricey vehicle. Inferiority complex comes out immediately and is widely spread out in these forums and no one should have to defend their purchases as long as their Happy that’s all that matters.

Wow, these posts get off of topic, so I am going to change my oil everyday for a year, and then never again. I think that might make everyone on this post happy?!?
