Noise in cabin or am I going crazy?

Ok the whistle is gone !!!

They have resolved the issue with part #84626475 Hose 3.120 Y

Its a vent hose on the gas tank that was to small. It collapses upon itself and whistled.

Thanks for the info. You've got a good  service dept at your dealer. I'm hoping GM puts out a service bulletin on this. Many dealers won't do a thing without one.

This is going to sound funny but it is the best way to describe the noise I have. If you have ever watched Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer you will know that when his nose glows it makes a high pitched sound. The noise in my truck is like this but down a few decibels. I have isolated it in the crack between the drivers side rear door and the bed. That is where the fuel tank is and the fuel filler hoses are nest that area. I can change the pitch by grabbing the hoses and moving them.

To duplicate it without driving, take the traction control off, put your truck in gear and ease on the gas, it should start making the noise around 1500 RPM's. It will start out low and get louder. I really feel it is a fuel pressure line problem.

Sound familiar?

#19-NA-005: Hoot or Whistle Noise Heard at Highway Speeds - (Jan 10, 2019)

Silverado 1500 (New Model)

Sierra 1500 (New Model)

L84/L87 engines

Some customers may comment that a hoot or whistle noise can be heard while driving at highway speeds around 70-74 MPH (113–119 km/h).

Some technicians may find this noise is emitted during the canister purge cycle.

This condition may be caused by the inner surface of the vent line attached at the fill pipe, which has a convolute surface and may allow a whistle noise to occur during purge flow at higher flow rates.

If the noise was validated to be coming from the vent, replace the Fuel Tank Filler Pipe.

    • The fill neck has a revised vent line attached that has a smooth interior surface designed to eliminate vent whistle.

I also am experiencing a high pitch noise almost a whistling sound...it is not there when I am below 20 mph but shows up afterwards, I can eliminate it by turning up the bose. I put down the windows and it almost sounds like it is a wind noise coming from the drivers side mirror assembly. I may try to tape a few openings to see if it gets reduced....I just read the service info from above...will ask the dealer at 1st visit. Thanks for the info...

i have a feeling it's the active noise cancellation which in theory should always work even with radio off.

If you have any of the exhaust upgrades from GM on your truck that ANC software should be updated at the dealer.  Perhaps see if you have any exhaust upgrade on your window sticker.  If so make sure the ANC is updated from the dealer.

Just an idea....

This is the fix I’ve been looking for. It’s a fuel tank vent hose. The part number is the new hose. Took care of the problem!

I have a 2018 Sierra. Last night I was heading to the airport and I heard the whine. I had music on and thought “I don’t remember any feedback being in this song” as that’s exactly what the sound is like, guitar amp feedback. Happens at about 110km/h. This is the first time I ever heard it, I drive highway every week and I have no idea where it is coming from as this is the first time I heard it. This is also the first time I had 4x4 in auto as it was snowing. Taking it out of auto never changed anything, it’s almost as if it started it and now it’s a “thing”

So my dealer also confirmed the issue to be the fuel line issue that was identified. My service manager actually duplicated the noise for me at the dealership and pinpointed the exact cause of the issue. They have ordered parts. Great Service from the service manager at Dow Lewis in a Yuba City , CA. !!!!!

I can also conform the fix (TSB # 19-NA-005).

I had my truck at the dealer for another warranty issue and had them address the whining noise while it was there.

The tech couldn't make the noise so I had to drive over to the dealer, take him for a ride and make the noise. Thankfully I was able to replicate the noise. The fuel hose/pipe assembly was replaced and the noise is finally gone.

UGH.... I wish I had a better dealer...  The Service manager is telling me it's my window vent shades.  I had to throw a fit and give them the number of the bulletin and they are now ordering the replacement part...  SO hopefully in a week or two I won't have this whistle any more!  "Fingers Crossed"

SO I've noticed over the past week that as I drive down the road every so often I hear this high pitched sound.  Not a metal type squeal just a high pitched sound.  It's intermittent and I can't replicate it on demand.  Has anyone else had any type of noise like this?  It's hard for me to go by the dealer but I can't replicate it on demand. The girlfriend heard it over the weekend so it made me feel better that it wasn't me just cracking up...

Spent from 0745 to 1300 at the dealer this morning with exact issue.  Warned ahead of time re: TSB # 19-NA-005.  Dealer wouldn't pre-order part and ran a smoke diagnostic test which they report the vehicle passed meaning no new parts needed.  Frustration ensued as did the sound, and, then, the tech simply removed the evap and reinstalled.... and, noise gone.  Drove it 50 miles home mixed highway/city and noise remains gone.
