Cold weather errors (trailer connection & sensors)

Recommended Posts

No issues this morning - about 15 degrees when I left the house. I did clean all of the parking sensors with a dampened rag, scraped a little stray ice from in front of the collision/lane keep camera and used some compressed air to blow out the trailer connections before I left the house. Not sure if that made any difference or not, or if I just got lucky this morning. It's supposed to be below zero a good chunk of this week so we'll see...

I have had my 2019 1500 for two months now. The check trailer connection alert started 1 month ago. I took it to the dealer and they cleaned and greased the plug. Happened again, they ordered and replaced the plug. Cleared it up for about two weeks, problem started again two days ago.

This morning I sent the dealer a video of the symptoms to make sure I was explaining it properly.

I had the same problems with my 2014 1500.

No doubt in the world the cold weather is causing it.  Just look where everyone lives who is complaining.  And with the arctic front diving south this week, additional folks are having this problem.  I have 3.5K miles on my truck (which I love btw) and got my alert yesterday when it was 15 degrees.  I would bet money that this is a hardware issue and not a software issue.  The cold is causing something to contract and a code is being thrown to the truck.

This should not be hard for GM to figure out with the team of folks they have.  They also better get ahead of it before it blows up in their face.  This forum has sounded the alarm and given GM time to fix this before others are affected or before others choose to buy something else.  The vehicle industry is hurting right now,  GM cannot afford to lose sales.

NOT ALL TRUCKS lol.

Seriously though I've been cringing and waiting wondering if this will happen to me over the last couple days.  Here it's been 2-8° F the last couple days, but no drama with my truck so far. *knock on wood*

Mine is sitting at the shop so they can try to reproduce it there.  Not sure if it will do any good but they have a call know GM to see if they can expedite a fix to me and hopefully the rest of us.  I’ll update later today if I hear anything.

My dealer couldn't reproduce it, but then I found out they had it sitting inside for a couple of hours before a short test drive. Make sure they park it outside, let the truck get cold and then drive it. Once my dealer did that they saw the problem straight away. Also doesn't hurt to record it on your cell phone either.

Update...truck picked up they identified a connector issue waiting for GM to push a fix down but they are well aware hopefully in the next week or two the fix is released.
Could you be more specific regarding "a connector issue" ?

Are we talking the trailer connection?

Just heard from my dealer as well... There is a new "plug" which he described as the trailer plug/connector that you attach the lighting harness. He also mentioned that there is an update to the programming as well that will be coming "soon". He was under the impression that the plug/connector is available to order and they will be getting the part number from GM tomorrow.

Awesome, happy to hear a fix is in the works. If anyone gets the TSB or part # I would love to have it so the dealer knows what I’m talking about when I bring mine in.

In regards to your parking sensors, mine were a bit wonky the other day. I don’t think it’s tied to this issue though. Cleaning them seemed to clear it up. Even a tiny piece of ice seems to cause problems with those.

Thanks very much. I will pass this info on to my dealer as well.
