2014 V8 ecotech to V6 ecotech

Recommended Posts

Had this thought in my head and did a little research and didn't find anything on it (maybe I just should've researched more lol)

My 14 Silverado has the 5.3l and is coming up on 200k miles.  I don't plan on having issues with the motor in the near future, but am curious what I can do if something would happen.

Is it possible to throw a used/reman V6 ecotech in place of the V8 ecotech?  Trannys the same between the two motors?  I'm sure there are a couple things different, but I'd like to pick your brains on some things I'm not able to think of.

The most I tow will be a jetski/atv/snowmobile, so I'm not worried about losing towing capacity. 95% of miles are highway w/o tow.

I agree with pronstar that the cost difference may make a same engine swap more practical.  If you find the cost difference is significant then a V6 Ecotec is a fine engine.  A V6 is not a step down from a V8.  It is a different engine catering to different preferences.  I've usually opted for the 6 cyl, half tons.  (My all time favourite is the F100/150 c/w  300 cu in L6 with 4spd, manual!)

OP, you can get 5.3's with under 50,000 miles, for $2000 or less all over the US. Check out car-part.com. A lot more involved when swapping from V8 to V6, or vice versa, wiring, ECM, fuel connections, etc... You could do a direct 5.3 swap in a weekend with hand tools, and a hoist.

^^^This. There have been almost five million of these trucks sold since 2014...lots of these engines around.
