Rear window leak

Ok guys here’s an update for y’all. Received a call from our local service manager at the dealership that has my truck. Says they have found some sort of putty on the seal that the caulk wouldn’t adhere and seal to. They removed the putty and reinstalled my window and sealed again. They leak tested it several times and had no leaks. I picked it up and noticed a huge water stain on the headliner. How I missed it I’m not sure but it’s about 20% of the headliner. So back in I go to let them know. They tell me the only thing they can do is clean the headliner as GM won’t pay to replace it and want me to see the detail person in the morning. I go to my office and leak test it myself and sure enough a leak in the same place on the passenger side.  The caulk job looks bad from what I can see. The way they described gooping the caulk on I’m curious how much damage they’ll do getting the window back off. The also said they were going to recaulk it a third time. I told them with the headliner stained I feel like it came that way when I bought it. He thinks he may have to call GM and see what they say. Anyhow it’s going back to them in the morning. I’m also answered a call from a Mrs Jerry Lynn whom is my senior case rep. She had info from two days ago and thought it was my first warranty experience instead of my third with the same problem. Hopefully she’ll get on this. The dealer swears it’s not the window frame cracking. He just replaced one last week that was pretty obvious as in he could clearly see the cracking on the frame. Well have to wait and see Mrs Jerry said she'd call me back on Monday.

That is a crazy story and I don’t buy it.

they replaced my headliner ASAP as soon as they saw the water.  Didn’t even wait for the stain to set in.

update on my truck - I returned it to the dealership today for leak after the first caulk job (4 days later). They told me the regional rep is aware and they are flying out a ‘window specialist’ to look at it. I have no idea what that means, but told them in no uncertain terms that should involve a new window.  I’m on day 26 of service, And there is zero percent chance it gets fixed in 4 days, so I guess the Hand grenade option is to start looking into lemon law. I hate thinking that, because I love the truck, but hate how we aren’t getting windows replaced when there is obviously something very wrong with this design.

Mine's made in the U.S. even though it's registered in Mexico. There's already a puddle under the right side seat and the leak came from the top of the window, not thru the part that rolls open. So it's definitely the seal. Not very happy about this, we don't get much rain here and I started reading abou tthis and decided to check, aha, there it is. Should have looked for it when it rained here last week as well but I didn't think much about it. So it seems to be U.S.-made trucks as well.

Since it’s mainly (but not exclusively) an early build problem, there’s actually more US-built trucks leaking than Mexican made ones. Just due to the simple fact that production didn’t start in MX until later in the model year, and allegedly the problem was fixed by that time. I say allegedly because there has been trucks built as late as 5/2019 leaking. Maybe they have a handle on it by now but it’s a pretty huge problem.

They are telling me know that they can't make it leak and I sprayed and sprayed on Friday and it wouldn't leak at the dealership even though it leaked at my office.  I'll have to video it next time around.  They are going to try to clean my headliner and if that doesn't work go to GM for a warranty replacement so they get paid.  They have also agreed to remove my rear seat and check for moisture and mold/mildew since the insulation pad behind the seat was saturated and they put a fan in the truck with the windows cracked to dry it out somehow. We'll see how everything goes.  As of today they have had my truck 2 days longer than I got to drive it and I have officially put more miles on the loaner than my own truck.

Just to add my story to this already too long of a thread....

Build date of Feb. 2019.  Noticed a leak about a month ago when I washed my truck.  Took it in and they caulked the window.  You could see some of the caulk if you looked hard enough but it wasn't too bad.  Still frustrating.  They gave me a ride back to work when I dropped it off.  Then forgot to notify me till 5:30 when it was done.  They told me their shuttle was done for the day and basically said I was on my own to get a ride.

Of course, like everyone else, that didn't fix it.  I took it back last Thursday at 9:00 and told them I wanted a rental which they agreed to. They called around 3:00 and said come pick up the truck because they have to order a new rear window.  Of course it's back ordered.  So now I'm waiting with a leaky truck and lots of rain (relatively, I'm in California) in the forecast.   Fortunately my headliner is black and I haven't noticed any staining.

Sorry you're going through this ... its very frustrating experience. At least you have a loaner for now. I would just make sure to take a photo or a video next time it leaks, so that you can document the leak.

Y'all can go ahead and add me to the list. 2020 2500hd ltz duramax, spent over 70k on my dream truck, just to drive my truck from the showroom floor to home and right back the next morning. Luckily, it was raining the 1st night and saw drops all over my back seat. Checked around the rear passenger seat belt opening and was completely soaked along with the floorboards carpet. It's been about 2 weeks and I drove 1 and a half hours to pick it up tonight, happens to have been raining since last night and still is, and imagine that, water is pouring in still. Like did they even check the damn thing? It's been done since Friday and due to the distance and work I could only pick up today. They had a 3rd party vendor come in and reseal the window Last Fridag as they told me. Said they've only had 1 other one in that was the same year and model as mine for the same leak so far...

I spoke with the GM senior advisor person last night and she is going ot call the dealer again and see what they are doing.  I explained that this was the third time.  I also asked her why it takes a full 24hrs after she speaks with the dealership to call me back, as in why not just hang up with the dealership and call me back then and she explained how busy she is assisting other people that it takes 24hrs to get back into her lineup.  I'm getting pretty frustrated over this whole thing.  I reminded her that NC lemon laws are 20 days and she told me if I wanted to go that route to use the instructions in the manual for contacting GM for assistance.  I kinda laughed when I told her that I couldn't look that up because the dealer has my truck and the manual is in the lower glove box.

I noticed that you had the leak late october. Did the dealership go straight to a new window for you? Or did they try the sealing first and it failed?

I'm sorry that I'm just getting back to this. The dealer and I had a little argument over something else when I was in for previous work (not window related), so I am not sure how or who is paying the for the window, but I just dropped the truck off and a whole new assembly is being installed. Slider, glass pieces, etc. I will get more info when I get the truck.

I really pressed them on the caulk fix, since they are a high volume Vette dealer, I asked if their Vette customers would allow that to be a repair that they would be okay with.

It stinks how many different answers everyone is getting. I hope they take pics of the cracks.

well count my 2019 Denali as a leaker too .

I'm overseas but wife said after a few days of raining she noticed the windows were fogged when she walked up to my truck . Opens the door and the entire back rear section was wet, half the headliner was soaked. She took it to dealer today . well see what they replace. I'm getting rid of this truck within next 6 months so i'm not mad but at same time truly unacceptable in 2019 we are having leak issues.

Do the 2020's leak or they did fix something ?

As far as I'm aware they don't leak.....yet.

Latest build date I'm aware of that leaked has been 5/2019 but I could be wrong
