Rear window leak

Took my truck in this Tuesday for the rear window leak, an oil change and a small paintless dent repair.  I specified for the service advisor to call me once they found the leak and before they did any repairs to it.  Well I get a call Thursday saying the dent and oil change were done, but they hadn't had time to get to the water leak yet.  I reminded them to call once they found the leak and before anything was done to correct it.

I received a call today around noon that the truck was ready and the window leak had been "fixed".  Well I knew what that meant, the "caulk it up method" had been applied.  So after work I headed down ready to have a conversation about how that is the most ridiculous fix on a brand new truck and won't last.  I finally got to the assistant service manager.  I let him explain their process and I explained where I was at.  5 minutes later he was ordering a new window for me.

I have to give my dealership credit.  They never gave me grief and were very cooperative and understanding.  It's the reason I bought from them in the first place.  They are a very large operation and glad they stand behind their sales!

I'll give an update when the window comes in and after.  While I'm not thrilled they attempted a fix before contacting me, I'm glad I was able to get the new window ordered before leaving the lot.

To everyone else going through this I wish you all the best of luck!  It's insane we are in this position.  While I understand things happen, we shouldn't have to go through a month long (or longer) dog and pony show to get to a fair resolution.  Caulk (sealant) is meant for bathrooms and a 1989 beater, not a brand new truck.

My dealer wants to re seal it for 2nd time and they are refusing to replace the whole assy. I really don’t want to mess again. Should I start calling GM customer service or give them another try? I not sure If customer service will do anything:(

If my 1st caulk job doesn’t hold (so far so good about 10 days in), I’m pushing as hard and as far as I can get for a window and a headliner. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to get GM involved although I’m not sure what it would do for you either.

I have a 2019 Silverado LTZ.  After a heavy rain storm, I just noticed leaks in the rear upper corners of the head liner.  Shaking my head.  Just unbelievable.

Sorry and welcome to the club. Unfortunately you’ll have to settle in for at least a couple weeks of BS with your truck.

Well. Had my window replaced. It was as if my truck was handed over to a bunch of neighborhood kids covered in grease with no technical skills. They barely bothered to remove any of the black sealant from the first three attempts, they also scratched my truck down to bare metal in two spots. It would appear my back seat was removed and placed on the shop floor, then someone set a tire against it. Had part of what looked like Goodyear on my back seat. Are you freaking kidding me? Also more greasy fingerprints on my headliner and now more interior pieces are scratched. To make things even worse, they left all the scraps and caulk shavings laying in the bed of my truck. I'm glad I picked it up late Friday night and will have had a few days to cool off before talking to service manager Monday morning.

If anyone is just noticing a leak for a first time, just call the glass company and have them replace the window on your insurance. Do not let gm caulk your truck.0b1a73b296c364ff5920ff38abd18441.jpgfe9f4034868eede4ccaef9139ea25a83.jpgac801796a9f139be88334fdfaa59d5df.jpg1d6b72034011eaa8928a7a907672e48c.jpg20f15e2716fb355d1d0f79ef29099c4c.jpg

To replace the window the back seats are removed so they can access the electrical connections, etc.

Had an interior trim panel scratched/gouged when they did mine. I had the dealer replace it.

Your truck is way worse than mine though...multiple scratches, paint scratches, etc.

These dealers really need to have a QC (quality control) person, preferably someone who is anal retentive, that does nothing but verifies that the repair was completed and that your vehicle is tip top before you're called to pick it up.

After talking to the district manager and service manager today one thing is clear to me. There are many people that are actually well intentioned and trying to help, it's the execution of the repairs where things go off the rails.

Are they going to make it right?

As right as you can make a damaged lemon. If the end result is acceptable, I would fashion to guess the Goodwill department will assist in some way. If I am not happy with the end result, will be talking with dealer sales manager about a buyback or trade to another Silverado. Last resort is the lemon law.
Honestly if I did get out of this truck is rather wait for a 2020 trail boss with a 10 speed. My 19 8 speed also has the dreaded 1-2 clunk on the first shift of the day. I would never buy another gm 8 speed. The inventory of 2019s is pretty depleted anyway locally. I looked and there are only one or two lt trail bosses within 75 miles. Would be very hard to find a loaded trail boss like mine anyway in a 19.

Just when you think things can't get worse, you go to pick up three kids from soccer practice and realize you only have two seat belts. You gotta be kidding me....I am running out of words. So if you get your window replaced, make sure they route the seat belts correctly. Now the seats gotta come back out again. Grrrr.63584bb20094e7e32104e51cdb904ce8.jpg

OMG - that is infuriating.  Did they replace the damaged interior trims?
