Rear window leak

That's some crap right there brother. I'd be on someone at GM.
I'm up to 57 phone calls to gm since this all started. 17 pages worth of conversation documentation.

There are people with much bigger problems in this world. Just trying to stay grounded, but I won't stop until it is made right. I will say that it hasn't been all bad. There are some people I've interacted with at different levels that were genuinely trying to help. The dealer wanted to replace the window from the getgo but gm wouldn't let them. All else fails, I'll do the lemon law, but I really don't want to have to find a new truck. It took quite a bit to find the one I have.

Sounds just like my situation. The dealer wanted to go further with diag on my knocking noise but GM said no. The GM customer service is a joke.

Hate to sound like a broken record but the windows from those build dates are known to be defective. They need to be replaced. Putting sealant on a defective window is treating the symptom, not the cause.

Make sure you guys open a case with GM if you haven't already.

Unfortunately you guys are stuck with dealers who have to follow the TSB from GM. I was in the same boat. I even had damage to my truck after the first repair. Thankfully my dealer made it right and after two failed attempts they finally replaced the window. I have been leak free since and my truck has been flawless.

That is good to know the window replacement fixed the issue. I have been in contact with the district manager who implied a replacement should be in the works so fingers crossed. Hopefully they can get all the old black sealant off my truck and the greasy fingerprints off the headliner.

Got the call this morning that sealant is in and I'm scheduled on Tuesday for the repair.  Well see how it goes.
Make sure you tell them that you want no greasy fingerprints on the fabric headliner. So have the technician wear disposalble gloves.

I will for sure!  It looks like when they were verifying it was leaking and when pulling down the headliner, they took off a plastic trim piece around the left rear shoulder seat belt and didn't get it back on very good.  It's quite loose.

I'm thinking it would have been better to just break the window out and have insurance fix it at a proper body shop.

I will give everyone an update on my personal experience with the rear window leak issue.

1. I noticed the leak last week and brought it in. They sealed the window and returned it the same day.

2. I noticed yesterday that it started to leak again so I called and set up an appointment today. They called me and informed me they ordered a new rear glass window and will have a glass company install it when it comes in. I will have my truck back tonight in the mean time.

This situation is only a nightmare if your dealer makes it one. This is only my second visit and a new rear glass window has been ordered already.

It definitely seems to be a different outcome depending on where you go. It seems like no matter what they will try to seal it once and possibly twice before they will authorize ba replacement. In hindsight, running it through my insurance would bhave been much less aggravating. You don't even need to break the window. If the frame is cracked the insurance should replace it either way.

To anyone whose had the sealant applied, are they supposed to apply it as one long bead or do they apply it as a broken line (left side/right side)?
In reality the entire channel needs to be filled with sealant, so probably several layers of sealant all the way across.

It’s at the dealer now. I’ll know how it turns out by this afternoon. Fingers crossed!

Not trying to be negative but it will end up needing the rear window replaced. The sealant is a band aid that might by you another month until it gets worse. Mine started out small but now my headliner is soaked while I wait for a new rear window to come in.

Yeah, I figure as much. But, they said they have to try this patch first before replacing.
