Service Power Steering and Service ESC

On April 2, 2019 I parked brefily for about 30 minutes. Upon re-entering my 2019 GMC Sierra truck with approximately 4500 miles and starting the engine I immediately received multiple warning messages on my dash panel. They were "Service ESC" "Service Trailer Brake", "Brake System Failure" "Steering Assist Reduced" and to drive no faster than 62 MPH.  Previously prior to parking I had never had any problems whatsoever. I was in a location where I needed to go so I attempted to drive but found quickly that the brake pedel went all the way to the floor with very limited or basically no braking. The steering became very difficult with no apparent power assist. I drove it approximately two miles and got to a location where I could park. I turned the engine off and back on and the problem did not go away. I turned it off again and waited a couple of minutes and then heard an automated couple of clunk sounds from the front.. I started it up and everything was okay except the check engine light was on and stayed on the rest of evening. The next morning the check engine light was still on however about twenty minutes later I noticed it was off and everything has been fine since. I had planned to take it to the GMC dealer however with no problem showing now and from past experience with the dealerships I decided there was no need to schedule an appointment until the symptoms come back. I found on the internet later that there are numerous instances where this has happened to many other 2019 GMC Sierra owners. I feel that this is a extremely serious problem that needs immediate attention especially with the near total braking system failure!

The same exact thing happened to me yesterday. I have a 2019 GMC Sierra with 5800 miles and was shocked that this happened. I was about a mile before getting in the highway when my automatic start kicked on and the lights on my dash flickered as I pressed the gas. I was going about 35 mph when the dash displayed “Service ESC,” Service Trailer Brake,” “Brake System Failure,” and “Steering Assist Reduced” drive no faster than 62 mph. Luckily I rolled the car into an empty office parking area but had no power steering and basically stood in the brakes to come to a slow roll making me hit the parking brake button to stop the truck. Turn the car on and off about 3 times with no luck. So I turned the car off, went on the internet and read all these posts. By the time I was done reading (about 6 minutes) I heard a clunk on the front of my dash, started the car and all the lights on my dash disappeared. I drove the truck home without any issue but will be taking it into the dealer today. Thanks to all for your posts - it helped me immensely sort things out and a very scary situation. They need to place a recall on this ASAP!

Anyone reporting their 2020’s with this issue? I am about to pull the trigger on a 2020 but this has me second guessing...

Go with an F150. They're the best selling truck for a reason. F*** GM and their issues, customer service and sub-par vehicles. I can't wait to get rid of my AT4. I'm going back to Ford, for sure.

I considered ford but they have doors not shutting, out of alignment, 10 spd issues, oil consumption, vibrations issues (at highway speeds), bunch of misc electronic issues, etc, though granted, they are able to stop.

Unfortunately i too have had this same issue with the 2019 Trail Boss i bought 2 months ago. Brake failure reduced engine power reduced steering assist is a VERY serious safety problem and Chevy has some serious issues with customer service. These codes along with several others have happened 5 yes 5 times in less than 3 weeks for me! Thank goodness i wasnt towing my boat cuz i would have hurt or killed someone if that would have happened while towing. Did have one close call almost rear ending a car too. Bought my truck from Classic Chevrolet in Madison and they have been advised by the GM technical support engineers and had the dealership reprogram the computer well pick my truck up and drove 25 miles and you guessed it....no brakes no power steering and reduced engine power. So i took it back immediately ....once again they talk to GM and this time they tighten a ground nut almost 2 turns so they thought the fixed it by doing that. NOPE picked it up after another 5 day service visit and made in 12 miles and goes out again. So my truck has been in the shop for over 6 weeks and i have to make my second payment this weekend. Dealership took over 2 weeks to call me and thats only because i call Chevy Customer Service to report such a serious safety concern! unfortunately after talking with them for weeks and fighting with my dealer Classic Chevy we dont have any resolution. SO PISSED to spend over 50k on a truck and have such a serious problem and for Chevy not to realize what kind of lawsuits they might have on their hands if they dont solve this problem. I have looked and have yet to find a dealer in this country to fix this issue yet. I have been believed in General Motors all my life and the way them and the dealer have handled this situation i have lost all faith in their product because they wont stand behind it!

Why did you switch from Ford to an AT4, then?

Same here, luckily I wasn’t driving when it happened.  Truck is the 2019 Sierra Elevation, had it for less than 2 months.  It was parked overnight and when I went out to start it this morning the truck had no power meaning the FOB would not unlock the doors, had to use the key in the FOB to unlock the doors.  Once inside no lights in the cab turned on, it was like the battery was dead but noticed the needles of the gages had a slight shaking motion going on.  Called roadside assistance to get a boost, when they connected the battery pack it was obvious the battery was fully charged but allowed to start the truck.  This is when I noticed pretty much every dashboard light on with all the diagnostic messages scrolling through.

”Service Parking Brake”

”Traction Control Off”

”Engine Power is Reduced”

”Brake System Failure 100km/h Top Speed”

”Service ESC”

”Service Trailer Brake System”

”Steering Assist is Reduced Drive with Care”

I have pictures of all of this and in addition to this the parking brake would not even disengage so couldn’t even drive to the garage.  Got it towed, thankfully when the tow truck showed up 45 minutes later the truck started and parking brake released.  Some of the messages also seemed to clear but got it towed on the flatbed anyways.  I did notice a week earlier that I got a quick message when starting the truck saying something about a low battery.  Maybe it’s related to electrical/wiring.  Dealership should be looking at it on Monday.

Everything stated on this thread happened to me about 3 weeks ago.

2020 Denali ultimate with about 2000 miles on it. Dealer blamed my electric tonneau cover but I know they are giving me a bunch of BS.

woke up to go to work and the truck would not unlock. I thought to myself that I left something on but it didn’t make sense because the truck has an auto shutoff on the electronics.

jump started it and every light on the dash was on. Truck was in limp mode and made a clicking noise from the steering column when pressing and releasing the brakes.
drove it to the dealer and they had it for about an hour and called me and said that the issue is my electronic tonneau cover that drained the battery and they they could hear the cover power cycling after shut off... which I did not hear. I started researching it and came across this thread.

If the cover was draining the battery why did it take 2200 miles for it to happen? Why did it not happen on my f150 lariat that had the same electronic cover on for almost 4 years.

dealer is such a joke.

The attached image is the explanation/fix my dealership did.  I could understand that the truck would not start since it seems to have been related to  the brake system.  However a little surprised that this would cause complete electrical cutoff since I could not unlock the doors with the key FOB or even have cab light turn on when doors opened.  Well hope that is it and now fixed but still concerned they fix side effects but the root cause is still undiagnosed.  Time will tell.

I had very similiar problem happen on my 2019 GMC Sierra with 7000 miles. I had parked and when I returned  I found the messages where I had lost most all braking, power stearing and had a dash full of lights telling me all sorts of warnings. I drove it about a mile and parked it and turned it off and back on and the problem continued. I turned it back off the second time and waited about 30 seconds and then heard a "clunking" noise under the dash/hood like a realy etc. had dropped out and it has been fine ever since. That was about 3000 miles ago. When I took it to the dealer for the initial 7000 oil change they found four recalls one of which I think had to do with this problem. The recall was 14121 (# N192210460) eBoost Control Module Software False Detection with DTC Associated - Reprogrammed BSCM per Recall. The three other recalls had to do with the navigation map and trailering lighting. Now the transmission is jerking and slipping and I understand there is a class action lawsuit ongoing about people having similiar transmission problems unfortunately. I have less than 9000 miles on the new truck.

Googling that recall number brings up the 2014-2018 Silverado brake recall, nothing to do with 2019/20 trucks. So either your dealer is confused, or I am, or both?

Bought a new 2019 this week and this is already happening to me. Had 5 miles on it when I test drove it. Morning after I brought it home I stopped at a store and when I got back in and started it up I had all the same errors: Service ESC, Service Parking Brake, Steering Assist Diminished, etc.

It happened again this morning, same scenario. Fine on first start, second start flashed errors. Turning it off on and on cleared the errors. Thankfully in both cases no braking issues.

Pretty disgusted to have a 50k+ truck with under 500 miles that already has a major issue. Build date on mine is 04/19.

Drove to a store was in there maybe 15 minutes. Came out and started truck and was met with Service Power Steering Drive with Care and Servoce ESC warnings. I tried several times to restart in an attempt to clear the message. No luck. Sat for about 20 minutes with engine off. Called tow truck. I tried to restart and message was cleared. No DTCs. And no way to replicate.

So what was the problem??  I’m having the same issue, brought it in they tried to replace the power steering and still have the issue

Mine just did this today after replacing the wheels. A bunch of lights came on. Had to put alot of pressure on the brakes like the booster was dead. Turned it off about half an hour then turned it back on and the only light on is the CEL and the fact it feels like it has power loss. I have an appointment this Thursday at the dealer but would be able to do standby if I drop it off which I'll do tomorrow cuz this is rediculous especially with a month old vehicle.

I know this is a little different but I was having trouble with “service esc” “engine power reduced”. I also lost brakes with 150kms on the truck back in oct 2018. Never happened again. Now have 53990kms on it. Anyway, dealer put  a new throttle position sensor in my truck, clear codes, all was good for a whopping 100kms. Back it went into shop, they replaced ecm and all has been good since the change out. Wonder if the ecm is causing these other problems too?
