Yeah, another tire question - Falken vs ?

Recommended Posts

You will like the Contact A/ts.  Very happy installing them on my truck.  Handled great towing my camper with excellent rain performance.....and look awesome.  I have dedicated winter tires, but have been using these tires in the snow due to an early storm and they are great in the snow too.  Good luck.

I love the Falken Wildpeak AT3W, been great on my truck, but that's not what your asking. In this case I would go for the Cooper.  Cooper has several AT tire options.  The AT3 4S is their newest option in their AT3 family.

Stay away from the Nitto unless you only care for looks.  Poor performance on those tires.

I'm running the Nitto Terra grappler G2's in 275/60R20 & completely disagree. After I leveled/lifted my truck I wanted a little bigger tire for better ride & a little more ground clearance + fill the wheel wells better. I originally put BFG K02's on ran em for a few days - but no bueno, good truck tire overall, but the drop in acceleration, baking, & complete inability to go into 4cyl mode that was immediately apparent was too much a trade off for what is actually an excellent all around tire. As far as I know the BFG's only come as an LT tire, & the 275/60R20's I had I believe were only 8 ply but weighed a whopping 16 lbs more each over the Nittos in the same size. The Cooper 4S's you can also get in stock or 33" size w/ P metric type weight (I think the same size as mine are about 42-44 lbs each) so that is a decent recommendation, but I find the Nittos to be a great tire for occasional offroad & general truck use.

For instance - when I had my stock goodyear SRA's & I backed into my yard to dump wood for my fire pit or wood chips/mulch etc theres a 40 degree incline in wood chipped area near my pit that I need to climb after dumping, EVERY single time in dry or wet weather didn't matter I would need to put my truck in 4HI to get started & up this incline, w/ the G2's I can leave it in 2WD.

The BFG KO2's were nearly as terrible as the Goodyear SRA's in rain, the Nittos are better than both but not significantly so. The Nittos will do decent in snow as well - I run dedicated snows during the winter but have driven in 6" of snow w/ these Nittos & they do well - my one knock is that you need to be diligent about tire pressure & rotating or they will wear @ a fast clip.

I’ve always read that LT tires with more plys were resistant to punctures.  I’ve been afraid to go with anything P-metric with that in mind.  Maybe it’s just the way things fall, but I haven’t had a puncture since I switched. Last time I ran Cooper ATR tires and had a puncture on a gravel road.  I’ve read about a billion positive things about Cooper, yet I can’t go back.

That’s exactly right.

A higher ply rating provides more material - rubber and/or actual plies - which equates to both puncture resistance and load capacity.

I'm at 46k and about to replace the Goodyears.   Still flip flopping between the Nitto TG G2 or the Hankook DynaPro ATM.

I had two sets of the Nitto TGs on my 07, they both lasted 50-55k, P metric.  As I understand it, the G2 is an improvement over the original TG.

I have a local tire dealer that is quoting me $800 for the Hankook and $900 for the Nittos.    P275/65/18s.

I think I just convinced myself.  :D

Looks like I'm too late. I got P275/65r18 Duratracs for $1080 with 160 mail in rebate from DT.  A lot of weights on them but they're smoth up to 85 (fastest I've gone) and don't make any more noise that I notice.  A lot lighter than a LT tire too at 46lbs, but they are very aggressive looking.

Good luck with the Cooper's!

Well, I have a couple of thousand miles on the ATPs now, and I'm happy with my choice.  Good in the rain and the little bit of snow we've had so far, ride is good, and very little tire noise.  Less noise than the BFG ATs I had on a Wrangler a few years ago.  So far I'm pretty happy with the Coopers.

I had the Michelin DEFENDER LTX M/S on my 2015 Sierra and when I traded it in on the 18 I said "Good riddance". I did a lot of research on those things and thought I made the right choice but those damn things were squirrelly! If you encountered any grooves on the highway the whole truck wiggled and towing a trailer magnified it. I never had an issue with the standard issue Good Years which is odd as everyone hates them! I'm currently running the stock Goodyear Wrangler SRA's and I'm not experiencing any of the issues I had with the Michelins.

This sounds like insansity lol!

I'd maybe buy the not liking the Michelin LTX's for being less aggressive than most other "AT" tires, but choosing Goodyear SRA's over ANY comparable Michelin tire is ludicrous. Those things are JUNK!

To each their own tho!

My uncle had SRAs stock on his F-150, and was happy with them.  Of course, when they wore out, he replaced them with the LTX, but they did not change his life by any stretch.

Out of those two I’d go with the nitto but you might want to check out the Yokohama geolander AT best tire I’ve run but their not talked about much.

Just installed these on my 2015 Denali with factory 22's.  Excited to try these out!

I was very happy with my Geolandars.  I was sad I had to sell them with my Canyon, since 16" wheels don't fit on my new Sierra.

I have the Falkens right now and at 73-83 on the highway my truck could shake my fillings out. Other than that I love them but around here you can't go slower than that without getting run over. I really wanted to like them but I think I'll run them as winter only and get the Continentals for the warm months.

I’ve had problems with Discount Tire being in a hurry and missing up the balance of the tires. Plus machines being out of calibration. If they take the time it’s most likely a bad tire or a tire that needs rotated on the rim because the rim is out of spec. I’ve had good luck with the Geolanders A/T GO15 and the KO 2’s. Have to get the KO 2’s on sale.
