17 5.3 ProCharger vs 16 5.3 e85 tune

Recommended Posts

Well made it to the track for the last test and tune of the year. Didn't run my best times but I was able to compare my setup on my truck versus a 2016 Silverado Double cab Z71 5.3 with a Volant CAI, Magnaflow cat-back and a Klug performance e85 tune. We both launched our trucks in 4wd, stalled to 2000 rpm, and switched to 2wd after the launch. Was very cool to compare the two trucks at the track.

Have you gone against a 6.2? modified or stock. Just curious how the times differ.

I have not yet. Usually the test and tunes there are pretty packed. I was lucky to be able to get paired up with my buddy like we did. There was a stock 15 crew cab 6.2 truck there 2 months ago and he went 14.001 which was his best pass. I remember because he was so mad he didn't get the 13.99 pass he was hoping for.

Thanks. Wish we had e85 more widely available in Canada. I'm thinking e85/tune, intake/full exhaust would have knocked a second off.

Keep up the good work!

My truck went from the stock 15.21 down to 14.1 with just an e85 tune. It's a nice performance boost for sure.

Nice!

Yeah, E85 is the way to go for a less cost to increase HP.  It is cheap fuel, at least here at $2.55 gallon.  Not to mention I like the way the exhaust smells.  :)

2.15 here in Michigan currently. :)

And everybody says the 5.3L sucks?  Lol....I love that motor!

Yeah I had a few people tell me I was wasting my time with a 5.3 truck. I am glad to say I have opened their eyes lol.

You have considerable more meat where it's needed!  Typical GM fashion if you get the 5.3L and 8speed.....it can handle 300+ hp/tq all day everyday without a sweat............

GM has been doing things like this for decades. People who do research find these things out. Like making the 5.3 E-85 near the same HP as the 6.2. Reminds me back in high school. A classmate had a 70 Chevelle 454. He thought he was the big dog. Another class mate had a nova. The Chevelle was loaded up with AC the works. The nova was plain, even had dish hub caps. Only a few of us knew he had the same 454. It was his brothers who was in Vietnam he ordered it that way. He got his permission last day of school. It was over before the Chevelle hit second gear. It cost them both 3 day suspension for the start of senior year. The nova friend had his own car that year a super bee. The Chevelle guy started all over again.

You’re old.

I graduated in 85, so good muscle cars where starting to climb in price.   I had a 69 Dart no a/c with a 318, with 360 heads, 360 intake manifold and 340 exhaust manifolds.   It was fun and hard to beat.

And if if you ask me the only fast stock Chevys were all out solid lifter high compression motors.  I was a big Mopar and Pontiac fan back then.  I still have a car life magazine from 69 where every 69 vette motor was tested along with a Boss 429, and a Hurst Olds and a 440 6 pack Coronet was tested.  The skinny tire 6 pack was the quickest.

So so back on track, once again, one cool truck Erick

My junior year of high school I was driving a 74 barracuda 318, high rise, 650 vacuum secondary holly. I don’t think that car weight was 3,000 lbs it was quick. Later that year I was driving 1970 javelin sst MD special 390. Much to our surprise a girl brought her boy friend around who drove a Buick Skylark stage 4 455. All us farm boys had hot rods back then. All we saw was Buick tail lights. I should have known better growing up riding in the back seat of my fathers favorite cars Electra 225.

Those old Buick’s were bad ass.   My dad preferred Pontiacs.  Good times back then, even when the cars weren’t super fast, people appreciated cars.  Now most people look at them like an appliance.
