Tri-Mode Running Boards Blackout

Recommended Posts

Plastidip?  Or get it sprayed with bedliner?  Plastidip will be removable so at least you could try it out and make sure you liked it before committing to a permanent solution.  Or just send them to me and I'll swap with my off road step bars :)

Just purchased a 2018 MIdnight Edition Silverado with the OEM Tri-Mode running boards on it and wanted to black out the chrome strip on the the outside of the step to match the rest of my truck. Has anyone done this or have any pointers on how to do it?

It’s not wise to Paint or Plastic Dip where you step on, it will peel, take a pic

It’s on the outside edge. Not where you step.

Easy fix, take it to get bed liner done to it. They’ll sand it, tape it then spray it. Make sure to use LineX cause it doesn’t fade like the knockoffs do.

I had mine wrapped.  Way easier than paint and if they get chipped up just get them rewraped.

What did that cost to wrap and is it an easy DIY option?

I'm trying to decide if I want to keep these things. If I keep them I'm going to have to black out the chrome through. Been considering selling them but I don't want to cause an issue with the electronics of the truck.

How does the truck react to removing them? Does it constantly warn you about it?

If anyone is interested in buying them, PM me in case I choose to do so

Why on earth would your remove the best designed & functional power running boards on the market today? I have used mine so many times cant image a truck without them, from cleaning the roof, clay bar my windshield to getting into my truck from the side in my garage, no room front or back when the garage door is closed. To knocking off rocks and dirt off my shoes before jumping to my truck, lastly... huge pet-peeve of mine, helps reduce people from sidling out of my seats it forces them to put a leg out and step down vs just slip and slide out of my truck with not steps, the factory NON-power steps are too close to the truck to be of any good use. if dont want them deployed just turn them off. Just get a nice vinyl wrap, it hold up for a long time.

I hope you got PPF, if not do it soon or you will regret it.

No issue removing them. Many have removed them in favor of amp steps when they lift their trucks. Just remember to tape up the connectors when you disconnect them

Those with lifted trucks, prefer to go with Amps powered as the come down versus out. I like the OEM powered steps since I’m it lifted (except for a level).

I was working on a customer’s lifted truck and almost fell on my a** trying to get out. Habit to put my foot on the running board.

well he didn't mention anything about a lift, had AMPs 1 set, 2 sets, 2or3 motors later all within 6 months, junk boards, and they always fail in the down position. best day is when I took them off.
