Trailboss is cool. Then you see 5.3 and 3.23 gears only.  How exciting.

I just don't understand what they're thinking.  And no more using "CAFE" as an excuse, it is not relevant to GM being unable to properly package their trucks.

The ford 2.7 makes more power and torque. Tows and hauls more and also gets better Milage then gm 2.7 that should really be a Colorado engine. Way to go idiots. Engineering gm style

The diesel will be the fuel economy choice, and I think that may be what held back the numbers on the gas engines.  My other theory is though, that the real world numbers on the DFM equipped 5.3(L84) and 6.2(L87) will be better than the engines they replace, and the real world of the T4 and the 4.3 might be rather close to each other.  I'm also still convinced that the EPA revised testing somehow, as the V8 numbers have remain the same or dropped in the past 5 years.

Agreed. This 4cyl 2.7 seems to be a huge swing-and-a-miss by The General.

But wait it will give you 2 miles per gallon better fuel economy than the v-8 ......maybe lol.

Have they published emissions numbers? Some folks may buy just based on the carbon footprint!

My 16  4x4 4.3 v6 with afm disabled gets 24 mpg on all highway 60-70 mph according to the trip computer. I get 22 mpg combined according to computer.

Maybe the real world numbers of the 4 cylinder will be slightly higher.

Perhaps GM used this 4 cyl to get higher city mpg to boost and meet their café requirements?? Or does café just go by the combined mpg?

I wonder why they wouldn't have just stuffed in the 3.6TT from the Cadillac lineup?

Cost.

It’s a high-content engine that’s likely more expensive than the 6.2L V8

Excellent!  Instead of referring to GM engineers as "idiots" or comparing the GM 2.7 to the Ford 2.7, I prefer to look for rationale.  I have lived in surroundings where bragging about having the largest engine was popular.  My boasts about my V6 garner far more attention in my current environment.  If the L4 has the towing capabilities to pull my travel trailer, it would be my first choice of engines.  Driving a large truck as a DD may seem a hypocritical to wanting to minimize my "footprint"  but at least I feel like I'm making some effort!.
