2018 OEM LED Tail Light Swap

Recommended Posts

I just bought a LTZ Midnight Edition and I want to get a set of black led tail lights. They are not compatible with the stock LEDs that come on the LTZs. Is there a way to convert the stock LED harness to the incandescent harness so I can get the tail lights I want? TIA!

I’m curious to know how this works out. You can easily swap the harnesses from the LTZ to an LT so that it can be physically compatible.

Now, the aftermarket LED lights that are out there were mostly designed to be compatible for non LED light trucks with load resistors built into the lights. I don’t know how this will play with the BCM as it will add more resistance back into the circuit.

If I were stuck on going with aftermarket led lights, here’s what I would do.

1. Get the factory LT Harnesses and install them. This will give you the 3 bulb sockets that most of the LED aftermarket lights we’re designed.

2. If you have access to the resistors, remove them.

By removing the resistors, the LED power draw should be close to or the same as the factory LED lights.

If you need a set of factory LT Tail light harnesses, I have a set somewhere in the garage. Lol.

I have aftermarket.  The resisters that came with the lights were not strong enough and created the hyperflash.  However I got a second set of resistors to add from them , and that has fixed the issue.  I have not seen or experienced any issues from any other part of the system.

Has anyone found any aftermarket LED taillights that work with the OEM LTZ LED harness. I have an 18 Midnight and desperatly want to get rid of the Red stock. Really dont want to tint or spray, just would like some black replacements.

Your best option is finding someone to swap taillights with and then buying aftermarket tails. Aftermarket tails need resistors for them to work properly and I'm not sure if OEM tails need resistors.

Is there any way that you can provide a link to purchase these lights, haven’t been able to find them for my 2018 LT for the last two months

I think he bought them on eBay. There is a member here that comes across them used. @alexg I’d try shooting him a message..   You’ll then need @pgamboa ‘s harness. Good luck.
