42mph..... No thanks, time is money too!
Glad you were in the slow lane though. Way to many people seem to hang out in the wrong lane and hold up the"flow" of traffic...

When new trucks move to 10-speed transmission and above in near future, minimum overdrive speed increases to 62 MPH. I agree with you that 42 MPH is absurd and ridiculous in how GM designed it, but that's the way it is sadly for me in order to achieve this MPG number due to design flaws by GM.

But Dodge Ram pickups are far superior than GM in terms of tall-gear availability. With 6-speed auto in 2011 Ram pickup I test drove before, minimum 6th gear overdrive speed is an impressive 57 MPH. I have to hit 60 speed first in order to feel final shift, before seeing tachometer drops and additional 200 RPM, then I go down to 57. Go 56 kicks it back to 5th gear. Since 2011, I have NOT found a vehicle greater than 57 MPH than this Ram truck. And then I rented Chevy Cruze 6-speed auto, it drops down to 39 MPH. :-(

45 MPH (not 55 MPH) is actually the most fuel-efficient point in these 6-speed GM pickup trucks. In Dodge Ram with 6-speed, it's actually 60 MPH. No clue with Ford.

I get a solid 13 to 14 mpg, I drive like a normal person, expect normal results. Don't do unsafe driving practices to get better milage. I use my truck as a truck. I truly laugh, hypermileing  a truck, go get your Prius.

Some uphill, of course, which dropped MPG quite a bit as low as 23 MPG. I drove up to 42 mph max speed at 1,000 RPM exact on truck slow lane while going uphill mountain terrain only, which is the 6th gear minimum overdrive speed requirement for the 6-speed transmission GM trucks. When coasting down, I shifted to neutral, up to 82 mph speed max.

I am all about getting decent gas mileage and saving some money...……….but, going 42 MPH on the freeway that would be a No Go for me.  I set the cruise at 72 MPH and leave it at that.  I average about 20-21 (hand calculated) since I had the truck.  I guess some people buy a full size truck and then trying to get Prius MPG, I never understood that.

Yours is a 6.2L V8, while mines is a 4.3L V6. :D Big difference in engine size. The bigger the engine, the more fuel it uses at idle, actually, especially in traffic jams. 6.2L V8 has a zero chance toping 39.7 MPG.

Wait, you were going 42 mph?! Were you not on a highway? What kind of road and speed limit?

42 mph was only for uphill terrain driving, 45 mph for straight road, 50 mph for slightly downhill, 55 mph for 3% downhill terrain, and then shifted to neutral that could go up to 80 mph for more than 6% downhill terrain.

Speed was variable, actually, and median speed was 48-52 mph.

I know that I can't top 39.7 MPG in my truck and neither can you get a true 39.7 MPG, maybe close to 30 or so.  that is what I got on a good day in my Ram EcoDiesel (with a GDE tune) which has a way more efficient engine than my truck and even yours.  Nobody, I guess except you drives that slow just to eek out and additional MPG.  If I want to save gas I drive my wife's Mercedes which gets mid-20s.

In Los Angeles, CA, where traffic-jams are the worst in this whole country, it's actually kind of okay and fairly-safe driving up to 45 mph speed max on slow, right lane during weekdays only. The right lane is always busy with vehicles exiting, entering, lane merge, trucks jamming, and etc. So, that's how I get 28.5 MPG average so far, although today it went up to 29.3 MPG average due to less traffic on Sunday.

Thats neat you can get that mpg going downhill in neutral. In Colorado it is illegal to coast downhill in neutral. CRS 42-4-1009

Also I like to tow stuff, heavier stuff than the 4.3 can handle.  I also need 4x4 in Colorado.
