The buying process is rough when money matters

Are you stuck in the 90's? Stop sitting down with dealers to negotiate pricing. Why not buy the truck online with no extras, show up and hand them a check? Drive off within 20 minutes with no games. Never failed me yet and I have the option to walk out with my check at any time things do go as I planned. Laura and Everett for the win!

70's actually.. I won't even start talking until after a test drive. Plus, it won't work if you have a trade.

When I bought my '17 Sierra, it was the best time buying a vehicle I've ever had.

Here are a few things that probably helped:
1. I didn't need to buy a truck right then. I already had one that was still working for me, although it was getting long in the tooth. I started looking before I needed to buy and said I would only buy now if the price was very enticing. I was clear about that from the start.
2. I knew exactly what I wanted and had a list already made. I stuck 100% to that list.

3. I dealt with a dealership that allows the sales staff to make their own deals. None of that 'I have to check with my manager' crap. This is very important IMO and really levels the field.
4. The staff at this dealership has integrity.

5. I sold my old truck separately. It wasn't worth much for a trade anyways and needed a bunch of work to get it ready for sale.

I gave the salesman my list in June of 17 and he found me a truck that hit almost all the boxes a few days later. The remaining options were added at a discount.  He quoted me a price low enough that I didn't feel the need to dicker. I got a big discount and they still make a few bux, which is important. I went in, signed the papers, wrote a check and picked the truck up 2 days later.
I was quite happy with the experience and gave the salesperson & dealership high marks on the survey.

For anyone in Southwestern ON looking for a GM truck or car, SMP in Stratford has been a good place to deal with in my experience.

I just purchased my new truck 1 month ago and I agree with all that has been stated regarding dealership sales tactics. The BEST thing you can do for yourself here is to take ownership of the conversation - you do all the driving. I learned all about high pressure sales tactics when I had a summer job selling vacuum cleaners back in high school (one of my best educational experiences). You ask the questions.. you drive the conversation.. make the sales staff respond to you vs you responding to them. It really is that simple.. be firm and control the conversation.. I've frustrated many a sales person over the years and still find it an entertaining experience! :)

Agree 110%.

It's your money you should be in control.

Vacuums sales.

My part time job after retirement was as a service tech for vacuum's and carpet cleaning machines.

I also sold them.

Miele is my favorite brand and IMO the best.

Worst experience was at a Ford dealership in Pensacola in 1986. Went as an observer with a dyslexic friend. After he mentioned that fact they went full court press. Salesman, sales manger, and general manager. I could see my friend was confused and getting ready to sign the dotted line so I grabbed the contract and tore it up. For some reason we were asked to leave. It took me over an hour to explain to my friend what they tried to do.

Fortunately my last 2 vehicles have been purchased from another friend a the local Chevy dealership. I call him and tell him what truck I want and by the time I get there he has all of the fat removed from the contract and I am ready to sign the papers. While I was on the way to pick up my current truck he called to say he had found an additional $1,000.00 discount.

The easiest ways to avoid this is not to be set on a brand or dealer. Usually leftovers are the best deals. I researched 4 brands of cars when I bought my last one. I did the same when I brought my last SUV and truck. Most of my work is done at my computer with a printer. Some at dealers. It usually ends up with the sales person competing with each other. I live in a large town with all brands represented in close proximity, maybe that’s the difference. I don’t buy unless I can save 10-15 K off sticker. That’s where buying last years model comes in. My 17 Camry cost me 17.5, there’s no way I could get one for that now. I thought I was going to buy an Honda starting out. It was close to 30K in comparison. You just have to be flexible and not afraid to walk.

I got a great deal on my leftover Camaro, but it's ironically that same dealer that still has two NEW 2016 Buick Regals. The 2019 are being delivered. And you can get a similiar Deal on the 2018s, which is the new generation.

That's not a great discount considering you can get 5k off the new generation regal

A lot has to do with kick backs and spiffs from the manufacturer.

Or just buy online and have it delivered.

There’s really no reason to step foot in a dealership if you already know what you want.

I usually step foot in the dealership once ----- to take delivery.
