NEED HELP! EXHAUST

Recommended Posts

Before you spend a dollar on new parts, please try this. Go to a muffler shop, have them cut the exhaust pipe in front of the muffler, then again just after the flapper. Remove the muffler and the flapper as one piece. Put back a straight piece of pipe in their place. Do NOTHING else.

It it is almost free, it sounds great, you still have the resonators in place to keep it from being too loud or raspy. Give it a few days, you may be surprised at how well you like it. Put the stock muffler assembly in the basement Incase you ever want to change it back.

If if you don’t like the sound and want to tinker, it is no big deal to have a shop put a muffler back in the same spot.

-If you decide on buying a new chrome exhaust tip, have them trim the existing pipe back a few inches so that the new pretty tip doesn’t stick out too far and look dorky.

I can’t recommend this enough. Make sure to drive it like this for a few days though. I put a Magnaflow 12909 on mine and find it too quiet still. I think a fuffler delete would be perfect for what I want but now I’ve spent the $ on a Magnaflow. It’s at least worth a try.

I did the muffler delete but kept the flapper. Keep the tailpipe as it is with the resonator. It sound good around town, and damn near stock on a highway run. However when you pass someone you get to hear it again. It barks good on cold start but calms down quick. Best cheap money I spent!

I tried just a muffler on my 6.2. Did a 3.5" borla xr-1 muffler. It was still stupid quiet. Just a smidge louder than stock. So I then deleted the resonator and it came alive.

I say try the muffler delete first and see what happens.

So I just got my truck GMC Sierra SLT Premium plus package with a 5.3l has been 3 months and put 8k miles on it, as you can tell I daily drive this thing. I love it, best choice i ever made after previously owning a dodge charger RT. So I've been looking up exhaust videos and I'm not sure which direction to go. If you guy have ever heard of the 2013 Yukon Denali's those stock sound deep and perfect. Thats what I'm trying to aim for, don't want any drone because its a daily truck go for a lot of long drives. What would you guys suggest? I'm leaning towards a resonator delete or just muffler delete.

Did you do the muffler delete and just add a straight pipe?
