OEM Off-Road Light Switch Install

Recommended Posts

That does look great! Just added to my to-do list! Thanks

The hardest part was getting the plastic insert out of the step to drill the holes. Only because I was avoiding removing the bumper because I don’t know about the 2500s but the 1500s you have to unbolt the bed from the body and raise it up to get the rear bumper out of the brackets. [emoji849]

I had these installed too but they were junk. Went through 2 pairs and both shorted out in less than a year. Poor customer service by Anzo as well since I bought them through Amazon they basically wouldn’t talk to me.

Just noticed I can’t find them on their website anymore and Amazon says currently unavailable. So they must of figured out how crappy they were.

Not exactly, but there is a way to do so by turning the headlights to manually “on”, grabbing that signal and the one from the high beams and using a relay. It’s a little drawn out but basically you can take those night drives through deer/elk/moose country with less fear of testing your airbags. You’ll be able to power up your light bar using the high beam switch and turn it off as fast as dimming your brights. Under normal driving conditions just leave your headlight switch in the “auto” position and the light bar will stay off when you “flash to pass” or just hit your high beams.

While sometimes it’s nice to see an X-ray of the oncoming driver’s skull on their back window you could get a nice ticket or worse so having the option to not run the lights or quickly dim them is key. The light I installed is amber and will be used in heavy fog and snow or dirt road driving.

This was in response to my question, right?

I talked to our electrical guy at work a little bit, & he said something about running the two switches in series & made it sound like it wouldn't be a big deal.

Yes, sorry I had only a minute to click and send and skipped the reply part. I just talked with my wife about adding a second light (white) to her grille for better Elk defense driving down US 285 in Colorado last night at 1AM and she gave me the thumbs up so video to come...

Here’s a thought to save some cash.....if you don’t currently have fogs you can use a headlight switch with fogs to activate your “ORL”. Instead of connecting harness to cavity #6, insert it into #10 (fog light control). Leave out the return to #9 for the indicator on the button itself. The BCM will still receive the signal it needs and your wallet will only shell out for a regular headlight switch with fogs for +/- $30.

So ,my 17 is in the shop getting to door repainted where the dealer scratched it. Was going to try and order the connectors for the harness. Does anyone no if the 17 1500s have the JST connectors?

My 18 crew cab does. Everything is the same with the video

I just want to confirm, if I wire this switch right up like the video, the light will come on whenever the switch is long pressed?  It isn't limited to high beams only, like I think the stock harness is (the only that comes with the 2 ATX lights)?

Correct.  Long press the auxiliary light button and the connected light(s) will come on and stay on, regardless of headlight setting.  Think of it as a standalone switch.

What did you order?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00T9GC59U

A couple of cheap 12" light bars to go on my All Terrain X sport bar. The wiring should already be run to the front, so I'll tap into that and run a relay from the trigger on this switch. Then wire the lights up to the factory harness in the bar. That's the plan, hope it's that easy...

If these lights don't last, I'm looking to upgrade to Rigid Industries 10" bars. I just couldn't justify the price first go around, since the lights will be used sparingly as it is.

Now to find a relay.

Okay well it appears as though this switch won’t work in the 2014s. I just made my harness following TinkeringFox’s video and my switch doesn’t do anything. No light on the instrument cluster and the switch doesn’t change to amber. Can anyone confirm this? I’m assuming the BCM isn’t configured for it.
