AIRAID Modular Intake Tube on my 5.3 Silverado

Recommended Posts

Okay, this is an excellent (FREE) mod! Right up there with the accelerator paint stick and foglight/high beam resistor.

The hardest part was removing and replacing the airbox. Other than that, took about 3 mins with a hole saw drill bit and jigsaw. Haven’t had a chance to drive it yet.

Thanks guys!

In the 2nd photo (with the foam), I cut out the smaller oval. There’s a formed pattern on the backside to follow and it lines up perfectly with an oval cutout inside the fender. Not a huge additional opening, but if it adds 10%(?) more air flow - why not?

I did this same mod. What filter are you running ?

Right now just the stock filter. I bought the Airaid Jr. kit and put the air tube on, but since I've only got 3k miles on the truck I figured I'd get a little more use out of the oem filter before putting in the Airaid dry filter.

So with the box mod and Jr. Tube do you notice more sound, throatier that is ?

Any quicker throttle response or slight change in power?

Have you done the Paint Stick Mod?

Now THAT makes the throttle response much better

Gotcha. Makes sense to use up the factory filter first.

It is definitely throatier on acceleration. I haven't noticed any real power difference.

You probably will once upgrading to either a K&N or good Hi Flow Dry filter like Green or AEM.

That is going to be my next step. There is a SPECTRE brand K&N knock off at my local AutoZone

that is about $20 cheaper than a K&N I might try. It is a wet filter but claims are not as oiled up as a K&N

SPECTRE also makes a $150 cold air intake kit.

SPECTRE Cone filters are very good flowing, but will let fine dust into the intake, Trust me

Those are the ones i used to have in the Jetta i menctioned
