Power Door Locks and Power Folding Mirrors Possessed!

Recommended Posts

I am going to start with grounds on top of the dash that I saw someone having major problems with on another forum. Are there any other secret ground locations I should inspect?

I figured out this problem!!!  It was my key fob remote!  By a short of some kind the remote was randomly sending a lock signal just like I was holding down the lock button.  Guess what?  A few weeks later it started unlocking!!  I pulled the battery out of the #1 key fob remote I was using and switched to backup key fob remote #2.  No issues since.

I have a 2017 Silverado.  Yesterday it started to do exactly what was described in previous posts.  As I was walking out to get in my truck the horn would honk as though I was locking it with the FOB even though I wasn't doing anything.  When I got up to the truck I had a hard time getting the door to open as it would lock right after I would unlock it with the FOB (it would also lock immediately after I would unlock in manually).  I finally managed to get in and started it, then noticed the mirrors were folded in so I pushed the button to move them back out and as soon as the fully expanded they would fold in again by themselves. This occurred maybe 4 or 5 times, finally gave up and decided to drive home with the mirrors folded in.  Once I threw it in drive and started driving I was able to get the mirrors to stay open.  I will check the ground on the battery as some have suggested. If it is loose I will post a follow up later.

Mirrors, door locks and horn going off at all times of the day and night.  I had this issue for several weeks, took truck into dealer who wanted $1500 to replace a body control module.  I took to another shop to get second opinion and they could not determine the cause. I brought the truck home and decided to experiment with replacing batteries in my key fobs.  I thought I was a genius as this worked for about 2 weeks until my wife took my truck and used her key fob which caused the problem to occur again.  I removed the battery from her FOB and then only used my FOB to lock and unlock.  Its been 3 weeks and no problems, fingers crossed.  I suspect that I must have switched FOBs with my wife when I replaced batteries and believe that I have a FOB that is shorting out and causing the problem.
