Radio quit

Recommended Posts

I was driving to a job today and everything was working fine.I was listening to Rush on the radio. I stopped for gas and when I had finished filling up and fired up the motor there wasn't a sound out of the radio. The display looked normal in AM, FM, and CD but there was no sound. I stopped and restarted the truck to see if that made a difference but it didn't . I had decided to leav work early and go to the dealer to have it looked at and when I started the truck all was well. The radio worked fine.

What happened? Will it happen again? Has anyone else had this problem?

FYI...I had the same experience this morning on my 2003 Silverado 2500HD when I started up my truck to go to the gym. The radio controls worked and there was no sound. After the gym workout I started the truck and the sound was normal. They obviously have a problem that is affecting a lot of trucks. I will be visiting my dealer soon.

OK it happened again this morning exactly two weeks after the first incident. I called the Service manager and he scheduled me for an appointment next Tuesday. He said the problem has come up several times but they have found a different cause each time. So I'll let you all know what happens next Tuesday.

Tool my truck to the dealer this morning to repair the radio and quiet a rattle behind the radio and dash.

I was told there was a bullitin for no radio output and the unit was reprogrammed. He said the radio was reprogrammed for newer speeds whatever that means.

The tech found a wire harness behind the radio that was not fastened as it should have been and it vibrated on acceleration. The harness was relocated and the rattle is gone.

No charge for the work picked up the truck at 5:00pm. It wasn't dirty but they hand washed it anyway.
