I have tracked my mpg's since I bought the truck (hand calculated and put on a spreadsheet).  My truck's lifetime mpg's has been slowly decreasing in the 4 years I have owned it.  The first couple of years it was 19.5 mpg avg but now down to a lifetime of 19.1 mpg's.  I only drive 5-6k miles a year so I am just at 25k for the 4 years but still disappointing since every other vehicle I have ever owned got better mpg's after the engine was broke in.

I track mine too and also watched it come down, turned out to be the cats.

My 2014 was the same way.  I assumed it was build-up on the valves from the GDI and just general wear and tear.  I planned on doing a plugs/wires etc. tune up in the fall to see if that helped  but dumped it for a 2018 instead.

I don't put a lot of miles on my truck due to taking a company truck home and preferring to be on 2 wheels on the weekends so gas mileage is not something I am too concerned about but still don't like that it is slowly going down.

What can cause this drop?

Anything related to AFM problems or gumming up of the valves?

Not sure but other factors can come into play like a colder than normal winter or higher percentage of in town driving than highway.  When ever I haul heavy loads or pull a trailer I don't put that tank of gas into my spreadsheet as to not skew the numbers to bad.  Could just be the nature of a DI engine but don't really know.

I track every ounce of fuel I burn and every mile I drive in Excel. 75,000 miles now. No cherry picking. I find a 25 tank moving average gives a nice view of seasonal changes and the lifetime and running average a good view of general health. I also have a chart for every tank and their six point moving average. Better for showing changes in my habits and explaining weather and terrain.  Note: There is allot of noise early on just like your instant mileage numbers of your DIC. Even the life time averages can and will be tossed about a bit by large seasonal swings but in general my numbers continue to climb. I.E. As you can see the life time average has exceeded the running average for last year.

That's my MPG chart for my 2014.  You can see an ever so slight decrease in general MPG over the life of the truck.

*EDIT* FYI - The grey lines peeking above the white lines are the MPG's reported by the DIC for that tank.

Boy, I better figure out how to make these fancy graphs!  My spreadsheets are full of numbers!

I use Road Trip on iOS.  Nice app that I think I paid $4.99 for several years ago.  Well worth it.
