You can buy vinyl for like $6 at Amazon or EBay, if you don't need a different contrasting color. I left mine chrome, but could have just as easily painted the plastic. I removed both the front and rear emblems, drilled out the plastic fasteners, wrapped the bowtie emblems and 3M taped them back in.....

I painted mine like 2 years ago when I got my truck but the front one has started peeling. How has the 3M held up?

If you don’t want to do the Plasti dip they are available on eBay type black Silverado letters in the search on the auto parts page. Silverado, Chevrolet, LTZ, LT, 2500HD, High Country, Transformers, Decepticon, Captain America, Bumblebee and Cheyenne all available in black. Also Silverado, Chevrolet and LT available in redline.

The nice thing about Plastidip is if you get tired of the look, you can remove it. I have now had the lettering on about a year.... no issues. I don't abuse the letters when I wash the vehicle. One can did both doors and the tailgate lettering.

I wrapped the vinyl around and about a 1/4" behind the emblem. So when I reaffixed it to the frame, the vinyl has stayed tight. I have no marks on the vinyl.... but I do have a couple of small chips on the hood above the grill. :fume: Vinyl is pretty forgiving.

I blacked out everything I could on mine to color match and removed the chrome lettering on the tailgate  as well as tinting the windows and even getting the black version of the K&N intake and I love how it looks.

So I'm wondering if anyone's had issues using painter's tape (when masking off for buffing, etc) on Plasti-dipped parts.  I definitely will want to mask off things like my door trim when I buff every couple years.

IOW, can good painter's tape (3M) pull the Plasti-dip off?

My favorite part of your truck is the MSU hitch cover, SPARTY ON (I grew up in Lansing)! Seriously though, nice truck. Mine is blacked out as well.

I'm MSU class of 2002 and still live about 15 minutes from campus so I make it to most home tailgates. :)

All I did to mine was chop everything off aft of the muffler and flapper.  It honestly wasn't that much louder.  I drove it all the way from San Diego to Mississippi and back like that and the noise honestly was barely noticeable.

Are you talking about inside the cab or outside?
