Forward Collision Alert Help Please

Recommended Posts

Random “Service front camera” warnings in good weather . Cleaned windshield. Removed camera, cleaned lens. Cleaned inside of windshield, checked wiring. All looks good. Camera is mounted nice and snug.

I bought it a year ago from the dealership. They took care of at least three recalls at that time. I would hope they took care of whatever else needed to be done.its worked without issue until a couple weeks ago

I'm not suspecting a wiring problem either, but a schematic will show all of the components and references to locations of the components. Other than the camera, there has to be some sort of control module for this system. I have  gone through countless parts diagrams for this truck and cannot locate a control module or any sensors (radar or something) in the front grill area. Seems unlikely to me that ALL lane departure warning and forward collision alert functions are handled by the camera only.

I have the option to either bring it to the dealership (root canals are faster and less painful) and be charged $100 -$125 /hour plus parts. The camera alone is over $400.00 plus car rental for each day that they have it. With a schematic, I have a high level of confidence that between myself and 9 other guys that I work with in an electrical engineering department here at work -we can tackle this -only if we had drawings to work with. I'm about to just purchase a set of repair manuals just to get the schematic. Paying the $450.00 for the repair manuals looks like an  economically sound decision vs. bringing the truck to the stealership.

Drop me a PM and I will see if I can come up with what you need.

I also out of the blue got a "service front camera" message and all functions associated are disabled. (collision alert, lane assist) I don't want to pay $400 for the camera myself either and what if that's not even the problem. Did anyone find any solutions or things to check before biting the bullet?

Bringing this back up, as I have the same problem in my 2018.  Taking it in this week, as it's still covered under factory warranty.  My service guy did say that he has seen non-GM aftermarket windshields cause an issue, although my truck is completely as it came from the factory - so not the problem here.

However, I noticed today that a bird has apparently tried to build a nest behind my grill and in front of the radiator on passenger lower side.  I cleaned all that out, haven't checked to see if that corrected it yet, but there is some kind of sensor mounted low behind the grill on that side.  I too would like to know where and what the components of the system are.

Anybody got a part number for the front camera?  Dealership said front camera was indeed bad, but on backorder.  Been waiting for almost two months....  Wanna call some other dealers or look online to see if they really are on backorder before I complain.
