New guy from Houston. Looking for information/recommendations on regearing 16 z71

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

New guy from Houston named Zach. I'm looking to lift my truck and put 35's on it.

My buddy with a lifted Diesel said it will turn my gasser into a dog and I need to regear so I can get out my own way.

What gears would work best on my truck for 35's? I was thinking 4.56?

Also If anyone has re-geared their truck and can recommend a place in Houston? I would appreciate it.

I don't even know where to start looking.

My friend has 35's and a suspension lift on his 1500 5.3. He has 3.42 gears it seems to be fine.

That’s a pretty good set of gears from the factory, if it were 3.08s, I would definitely say that you need to swap.  With the 8 speed and 35s, I wouldn’t go any steeper than a 4.10 for a daily.

Go go talk to Roy over at Street Performance, he’ll be able to help you out and answer questions.

I'd keep the gears you've got and see how it goes. You'll have to re-gear both front and rear, with limited aftermarket options. Probably looking at $1500-2000 at a shop plus a tune, and good bye powertrain warranty. Let's see some pictures when you're done.
