Crew cab vs double cab

Recommended Posts

I use my 2014 double cab for use in Boy Scouts and it does just fine for the scouts ages 11-18. Some of my friends are over six foot and have ridden back there with no complaint. I have one friend is the 5'11" like me that complains but that's because he likes to slouch (read lay down) when sitting back there. Twice, due to the weather conditions making it questionable to sleep in a tent I have slept in the back seat and only then have I thought a crew would be better.  I have no kids of my own currently so I can not answer to the car seat though it is my understanding that most folks leave the car seat in the vehicle once they have them in there am I not mistaken? Another note, because there are no air vents in the back other than the feet a crew may not circulate air or sufficiently cool down the area for little ones. I've never had complaints in the backseat of my double cab but can't speak to the crew. Perhaps some one can advise on that? Here in Houston it is typically summer for 9 months, fall for one month, winter for one month and then spring for the last before it restarts. At the very least, get remote start. Hope this helps and I may have made it obvious but I'm a double cab guy myself as the doors open normally and are easier to open in tight confines due to be smaller doors.

As a double cab owner, there is no doubt that most adults would not be that comfortable in the back of a double cab for more than 45 mins. I’ve gotten numerous complaints and I’ve sat back there. I do no like it.

have a double cab, wish I spent the extra $ and got the crew with 6.5 bed... o well, live and learn.  I'm not about to lose 10-15k on this truck to get a new one.

I've also heard that some "crew" have the famous shake, so in a way I'm glad I didn't get a crew.

I think the infamous “shake” is across all configurations, isn’t it?
My 2017 doesn’t have shake, but I checked it well before purchasing

Thanks for setting both items straight, (it was an option, and the correct motor size)

They definitely offered the 6.2 in the latter year GMT-900 trucks as an option. When they started to offer the 6.2, they dropped the 6.0 option and stopped using the “Vortec Max” moniker as well.

One forward and one rear facing here. I couldn’t live without a crew cab. Seriously.

ive seen people manage with a double cab. But maybe they’re short people?

Take your car seats in and try them out in both. You’ll see the huge difference

Get the Crew Cab... Rear facing seats only fit in the middle seat on a double cab.. I have a double cab and no kids YET but, even I would prefer the extra room for cargo and people in the back seat... If you can fit it in the garage and can find one, maybe a crew with the 6-1/2' bed? Best of both worlds. I bought the DC because of the cost difference, no regrets just probably won't go double cab again next time.

Just bought a new GMC Sierra 1500 SLE.  I debated back and forth, but in the end it was an easy decision.  Money is not a concern for me, but I almost always have either my sled, or my quad in the bed.  In fact, my 2007 which I gave to my brother had 160k miles on it, and I bet at least 120k of those had the sled or quad in it.  The kids are all grown, so most of the time it's me and my golden retriever, or me and the wife, and hardly ever the kids.  Went with the double cab.

Crew won me on looks, once they put handles on the dbl cabs they just started looking weird..

Im a city folk so i prefer more cab space and anyone who rides in my crew has never complained about being uncomfortable. Now when they rode in my 03 ext cab no one wanted to ride with me lol..

Crew any day of the week, if you need more bed, you need a trailer..

Same situation with me. I could have gotten pretty much anything, but I like the look of the DC w/standard bed. Perfect for my uses. I’m alone in the truck 99% of the time. When I need passenger space, I use our Volvo.
I was also partial to an American build.

  • 2 weeks later...

No wife, no kids, no pet, no crew cab, no problem

I like having more bed than cab space, and the cab space I do have is nice, I can either set stuff on the floor or belt it in on the seats. Double cab standard bad looks better to me too, so win win!
