Replacing 2.0 HMI module with 2.5 HMI module to add CarPlay/Android Auto to 2014-2015 Silverado

Recommended Posts

I’m assuming everyone figured this out already judging by what I’m seeing here now but if you havent I’ll save you the headache and just tell you Coastal Flash is a ****ing joke. Ever notice you cant really find any coastal flash reviews? Yeah because they won’t allow you to leave a bad review on their site and they delete any even remotely negative questions on their facebook page rather than answering them (which has zero content) like a question from a guy in the same boat I was disappeared. They even went so far as to turn off their facebook reviews after i saw someone slam them for their work while i was trying to get in contact with them.

I ordered a carplay kit and waited months and months for it, no kit no communication nothing. They love to tout they have a toll free phone number… that either rings busy or disconnected and I sent probably ten emails all of which never got a reply. I broke down and contacted WAMS and had a reply within about a minute of my first inquiry and my kit shipped a few days after my order. I was kind of surprised to see it was as they advertised all new OEM parts for the price considering coastal has buried in their terms that all their hardware is “second hand” meaning its used I almost got stuck with used hardware for nearly the same price as WAMS new stuff… un****ing real.

Seems like they are out of business now but just in case anyone else wants to play russian roulette.. don’t… just go to WAMS.

Here’s my two cents.

Like most on this forum I was trying to save a buck. I had an IO4 4.2” screen in my 2015 2500 Sierra. Although I preferred the OEM setup, I didn’t want to do the IO4 to IO5/6 swap because of the up front $1,000 to $1,500.

So, I found a Linkswell Gen 3 T-Style radio at half price. Usually I am pretty skeptical of aftermarket radios (even reputable ones). However, the seller was very reputable and I’ve bought from them before. I really liked the radio and it had a lot of functions that I wanted.

A year passes by and the radio starts to malfunction. Although out of the warranty period, the seller is helping me as an intermediary with Linkswell.

Long story short, Linkswell can’t/won’t help me. They couldn’t even repair it because they don’t have a repairer anymore.

So, I source a HMI and 8” screen from a salvage yard. I sent the HMI to WAMS for programming, Chris was even able to provide a radio.

Don’t mess with the aftermarket mess. Email Chris at WAMS whether you use his all brand new option for the IO4 to IO5/6 swap or go the salvage option. He’ll do a professional job and back his work.

I'm  not seeing the reason why DirtyMax is slamming Coastal Flash. Did I miss something?

Check out the other pages, and you can see what the problem is. There are far too many horror stories with them than good ones.

Hey fellas, hope everyone is well out there. My HMI in my 2014 Sierra took on water and needs replacing. I Probally could spend time and clean the water erroded spots but I think for the prices that i am seeing online plus considering the time factor it will be more beneficial in tems of time for me to purchase used and install just as long as there are no real complitcations in doing so. Can someone shed some light on if this is doable? My part numb is 2342 7513 can someone that "truly knows" tell me if this will be a direct swap or not, in any case any help or idea will be greatly appreaciated, thanks in adavance.

Hi

I have a 2014 silverado with factory 8" screen and navigation. I have just swapped HMI 2.5 programmed the correct VIN to remove the "THEFT DETECTED" however, only Apple CarPlay is shown while Anroid Auto is missing from the settings menu.

Any hints how to resolve this issue ? do I need to replace the radio module for android auto to work?

thanks

Hello,

Hopefully posting in correct place. I've read all 87 posts here. I have a 2015 GMC Canyon with NAV, Text, WiFi (not subscribed now) Sirius. I think that from what I've read, that I must have a 2.5. Do I just need the radio update. I'd like to emulate my Pixel 6 Android to my 8" screen but I'd settle for Android Auto. Will I need the USB update as well?

Thanks for all of the information.

TD

So just a heads up since we are still the only place that sells you brand new modules at dealer cost with full GM warranty for this upgrade the prices are starting to creep up on both modules again due to inflation. We are hearing rumors of a decent bump coming in the near future so if you've been on the fence you may want to consider doing it sooner than later :)

So...am I correct in thinking if I want to add Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, that I should (and I quote), "See WAMS, reach out to WAMS, email WAMS, talk to Chris White at WAMS"? OK, got it. If I don't want take a chance on used, recovered or resold widgets on CL, eBay, etc., I just need to reach out to WAMS, tell WAMS what I have and what I want and WAMS will give me a price? For real?

YYYYYYYYYESSSSS!

It really doesn't get any easier than that...and it's PLUG-N-PLAY and it's programmed and you get to keep your old stuff (should you be like nostalgic and all).

86 pages and yet still, tons o' people coming through the forums asking, "What do...I do..." "Can I..." "Do I have to..." "Can't I just..."? Classic human nature.

NOTE: Not only am I a visitor and an occasional poster on this site, I am also a WAMS customer (for life -- or until I give up on GM products).  🤣

They should PIN this answer!

Looks like there's no other way to go.

Thanks Laughey!

Looking for an navigation module upgrade for my 2014 chevy Silverado 1500 Lt.

Cheaper to do the CarPlay kit with navigation than just the navigation HMI on that vintage now (at least if you want new parts)
