Is my transmission slipping? 09 5.3 4L60E

Recommended Posts

When I was on the highway yesterday, I noticed that at low-part throttle with the RPMs between 1000-1500 at like 60mph, it felt like the transmission was slipping. Not towing anything. It was like bouncing between 1000-1500 and kinda shuddering a little. If I gave it more throttle it was fine.  Any ideas what that could be?

I read that after an engine misfire the TCC could be causing the problems with the transmission lockup?

I would check the transmission fluid level, and engine coolant level.

Then I would pull the transmission dip stick out, and let some of the fluid drip onto a piece of paper. Look at the color of the fluid. Is it pink, brown or black. Also hold the paper in direct sunlight and look for silver metal particles. Does the fluid smell burnt?

It is very important that you prevent the transmission from slipping as much as possible. Slipping will quickly destroy the transmission. If necessary, downshift or select "towing mode" to keep the tans from slipping.

Replacing the fluid probably wont help. Additives may help for a while. Replacing the filter may help, but its pretty unlikely.

There may be a simple fix like topping off the fluid, but I think that it is highly likely that you will be replacing the transmission very soon.
