Radio changing channels and screens

Recommended Posts

Changed my digitizer today with a panel from eBay.  It was a lot less nerve wracking once I realized the aluminum frame it mounts to is easily separated from the lcd panel. Once you do that, there's no risk of breaking anything.  Took about an hour taking my time.

I see so many of us have the same issue. Ours is a 2018 Silverado 1500 high country. For about a year we’ve been dealing with this BS. Radio changes screens, stations, disconnect’s Bluetooth, and affects the screen in front of the steering wheel also. It sucks that there’s this problem but no solution! You’d think GM would’ve addressed this already!

Well there are several really. In my case, I was out of warranty so I chose the least expensive solution (disconnect the digitizer) but screen replacement (with an already attached digitizer) solves the problem too. Replacing the digitizer (the cause of the problem) while less expensive, requires a bit more work and skill level but again, fixes the problem. It's a DYI or Dealer replacement. You can also upgrade the entire system with an aftermarket complete unit. It's just a matter of money.

I replaced the digitizer same as the post below that I pasted here.

$239 plus shipping and about 45 minutes DIY

Let me know if you need the youtube videos on "how to' replace the digitizer/screen.

Be careful with the ribbons ~ they are delicate

Well after 2 years of problems with the 8"touch screen on my 2017 gmc Sierra I have finally fixed it🤞  it would randomly change stations and flick icons as if you were touching the screen, hours of investigating poor earth's and low voltage as suggested on various forums but to no avail,  my truck is a personal import into the UK so no dealer back up here I decided to remove the screen  and disconnect the touch digitizer from the screen by unplugging the brown ribbon cable  put the screen back in the truck and everything worked OK, obviously the touch doesn't but I could use the buttons below to navigate the screen and radio icons so all functions now worked without any problems,  after driving for a few weeks with no problems I was confident that the touch digitizer was the cause of the original problem, ordered a new one from China as GM buy them from there just $239 plus shipping  for the screen and digitizer as I didn't fancy trying to remove the digitizer off the original screen, a week later it arrived now installed and working perfectly 😀 Thought I would share this as I didn't think it would be such a cheap fix,1723329220_Screenshot_20220125-192258_SamsungInternet.thumb.jpg.99737cc6b42db9f9ce15ea21ea60f3fa.jpg

Can you post the you tube links you used for doing this?

Thanks!

Thank you to everyone that has contributed to this topic. I replaced my digitizer about 6 weeks ago. That seems to have taken care of my issue. Previously it would have the issue 4+ times a week or sometimes a day!

Here is the link for the one I bought ( I think Wyatt1969 posted it) https://www.ebay.com/itm/314091027125

and there is the youtube video I used https://youtu.be/6TjWX0_sS3U

It fixed mine maybe it will fix yours too.

I should’ve been more clear- the vehicle and radio manufacturers doesn’t offer a FREE replacement or solution for a widespread issue with their product. After paying $68k for a “top of the line” vehicle, the idea of having to pay even more money to repair or replace a known widespread defective product is Bs.

Another dissatisfied customer here. I have this same issue with a 2018 Silverado and it started just after the warranty expired. I have tried the hacks listed in this forum and nothing has fixed the issue thus far. How about some customer service to help with this?

Hahaha!!! Good luck with that. You are quoting a bot that only knows how to post 1 single post and never provides ANY help whatsoever. All it does is change the name in the post.

I bought mine from a company (I think opuradio?)  I paid more than the eBay is offering - oh well it fit and works great!

Good luck-took me about 45 -60 minutes

I found a couple good YouTube videos that helped with getting it out and apart.

be careful with the ribbons.

I replaced mine with the $30 screen from ebay and it took me 30 minutes. No issues at all since replacing. So glad to finally find a way to fix this issue. I love Chevy trucks but this was my 3rd truck with screen changing issues. It was driving me crazy! What is amazing is how many trucks out there have this problem that Chevy can't fix, yet you can buy a $30 part off Ebay and fix it yourself.
