Radio changing channels and screens

Recommended Posts

My display will make a "clicking noise" (multiple times some times without changing the display) but then will sometimes change the Info display to the Music display.  I have had the OnStar activation screen come up on the middle dash display.  Lots of crazy "ghost" display changes like those mentioned here.

My non-dealer mechanic suggested doing a hard reset by unhooking the battery for up 30 minutes.  This action helped solve a similar problem his son was having.  I will try anything before spending MORE money.  I will let you know if this works for my issues.

Note: just replaced transmission with less than 88K miles ... losing confidence in several design features for my 2017 Silverado 1500.

I replaced the digitizer same as the post below that I pasted here.

$239 plus shipping and about 45 minutes DIY

Let me know if you need the youtube videos on "how to' replace the digitizer/screen.

Be careful with the ribbons ~ they are delicate

Well after 2 years of problems with the 8"touch screen on my 2017 gmc Sierra I have finally fixed it🤞  it would randomly change stations and flick icons as if you were touching the screen, hours of investigating poor earth's and low voltage as suggested on various forums but to no avail,  my truck is a personal import into the UK so no dealer back up here I decided to remove the screen  and disconnect the touch digitizer from the screen by unplugging the brown ribbon cable  put the screen back in the truck and everything worked OK, obviously the touch doesn't but I could use the buttons below to navigate the screen and radio icons so all functions now worked without any problems,  after driving for a few weeks with no problems I was confident that the touch digitizer was the cause of the original problem, ordered a new one from China as GM buy them from there just $239 plus shipping  for the screen and digitizer as I didn't fancy trying to remove the digitizer off the original screen, a week later it arrived now installed and working perfectly 😀 Thought I would share this as I didn't think it would be such a cheap fix,1723329220_Screenshot_20220125-192258_SamsungInternet.thumb.jpg.99737cc6b42db9f9ce15ea21ea60f3fa.jpg

Add my 2017 Silverado to the list of those with "possesed" radios - started changing stations on its own this July at 70,000 miles. Irritating & distracting, but what has led me to seek out this conversation is b/c today I cannot set my clock b/c the touch-screen is unresponsive. I appreciate being able to read what you're sharing & I look forward to more updates. [Just yesterday, wonderful husband checked the grounds & cables for another Silverado issue - temperature gauge / AC compressor / radiator fans - & fortunately all 3 are working again.]

My 2018 high country is doing the same thing and I ended up calling chevy after I took it to the dealership. They want $800 to replace the screen. After a long conversation I was told that noone to making them aware of the radio problems so they can't put a recall notice out until it's reported. So if you are having these problems call chevy and let them know. If not it's $800 out of pocket!

Jbell

if you read some of the previous posts in this thread you may find some different ways to check cables, ground wires etc. Try to eliminate the issue with these inexpensive fixes.
I did all that and changed out the digitizer for $238 plus shipping and about 45 minutes DIY. (previous post in this thread)

There  are a few “how to remove” videos on you tube.

good luck

I have purchased a shark fin antenna for my 2016 GMC on Amazon after seeing someone say that worked. Watch a few YouTube videos on it. Hope is works for me. Lately I’ve had mirrors folding in while driving and windows going down when shutting off the engine.

Same problem with my 2017 Silverado LT with 8" screen. Random beeps, radio stations would randomly scroll, screen would lock up and not function etc. I disconnected the digitizer ribbon cable and the random beeping problem went away. Radio functionality is available thru the knobs but a bit cumbersome to use. (thanks to Wyatt1963 for the idea) I found a digitizer on ebay for $68. The price has since dropped. Replacement was relatively simple. Removing the old digitizer was a bit time consuming; I used a razor blade to separate it from the frame. I have about 20 hours on so on the new digitizer with not one problem.

I just checked ebay. $48. https://www.ebay.com/itm/314091027125

(quick note: the sticky foam was on the wrong side. I had to carefully remove it then install on the correct side. the seller is aware of the issue)

Here are a few pictures showing the original digitizer part numbers, the black lcd screen with digitizer and frame separated from each other and the whole assembly when first removed.

Thanks for the shout-out.

I am glad it worked for you too.
Congratulations on the great price and thanks for sharing your successful fix.

Can you could post a link to the e-bay site for others to take advantage of?

Regards

+1 on this issue, my '17 High Country has started doing this around 70k miles. I'll call Chevy, and likely pick up a digitizer and try that. If not fixed, I'll probably do an Android headset to take advantage of wireless Android Auto

Thanks for the tips here fellas
