New cookie-cutter SUV is not a bad idea, calling it a blazer is stupid.

That is my opinion as well.  I grew up being shuttled around by my dad in his '92 full size Blazer, with a V8 and 33" tires.

The new vehicle does not look incredibly distinct from some other competitors, but overall, looks better than the average crossover, and definitely better than the new Equinox, IMO.

Initially, I was outraged by the use of the Blazer name, but already, I'm not as upset about it as when the news broke this summer.  I'll get over it, though I'll never think the name choice was a good idea.

If you would have shown me the photo without telling me what it was, I would have said Traverse.  I drove a Traverse for several years (a compromise that lead to my '18 Silverado) and I didn't mind it that much.  Yeah, it's an AWD quasi-minivan but it did well.  But, it was not a "truck/SUV" and nowhere near an off road vehicle.  Again, just from the photo, I see nothing that tells me this is anything other than something they already have and sell quite a lot of.

I like the look of the car, but it just isn't a Blazer. The Blazer name needs to be on something that at least capable of getting through a muddy puddle. Had GM made this like the Cherokee I could have excepted it. But they put it on a car.

Are any of you actually wanting to spend 30k plus on a vehicle that will rarely leave the pavement just because it has a solid axle?

Oh hell yeah!

Because of the inherent capability, toughness, simplicity, and ability to modify!

Haven't you noticed that Jeep has people lined up to buy every $45K+ Jeep Wrangler Rubicon they make?  How many will actually run a 'Jeep trail'?  1%?  For that matter, how many 4x4 or AWD vehicles of any type ever get off the pavement, even the "off-road" models?

If GM or even Furd came out with a new old-school, square steel body, solid axle, V8 SUV, they wouldn't be able to make enough of 'em for Real America aka Flyover Country, where people need and use real SUVs and trucks daily.  Same thing for an HD pickup with a solid front axle!

The reason they can't/won't is the EPA's damned CAFE requirements.  But President Trump is trying to back those down to reasonable levels, undoing the Obama era foolishness.

Car & Driver magazine just did a comparison test with a new Blazer RS and ranked it in 3rd place out of 5 vehicles, with the Honda Passport winning.  They said the Blazer rode too rough on its 21-inch tires, the silly A/C vents mounted down low (stolen from the Camaro) blow only on your knees, and it cost way too much for what you get--$5K more than the Honda and $10K more than the 2nd place Hyundai.  [$50K for a Chevy midsize CUV??!!]  And the Honda beat the Blazer in the 1/4 mile AND in actual measured fuel economy.  From the recent reviews of their new products, it would appear that Mary Barra & Co have been too busy counting their stacks of cash and eating special brownies imported from Denver.

Chevy didn't do well by the blazer name if they were going for retro. Where as the new bronco....

The new Bronco is going to sell well imo and have a huge fan following, Ford seems to listen to what their fans want.

While Gm must of been listening to themselves to design such a poor vehicle, i have still yet to see a single blazer on the road.
