MAX TOW PACKAGE DRIVE TRAIN QUESTIONS

Recommended Posts

Ok I have a question on the 6.2L Max Tow Package half ton trucks.  I know they came with the upgraded rear end at 9.76" gear ring and 3.42 gear ratio.  So knowing the front has to be 3.42, what size ring gear is in the front in the IFS housing?  Also has anyone ever changed out the front IFS to say oh a Spidertrax 9" or a Currie 9"?  And even a swap for the rear as well.  Buying the 6.2 max tow package for a undisclosed reason so thats why Im needing to know the front specs if anyone has any info on it.  Thanks in advance.  OH also if you have any pics as well that would be great to.

What model years are you asking about?  New or used?

The front is the same size as all other 1/2 tons, 8.25".

2014 up no 3.73, don't need it with an 8-sp trans standard with a 6.2L.  Also max tow is now available with a 5.3L engine..

More or less the same 8.25" they've used since 2007.

2014 6.2’s did not have an 8 speed. Mine has the 6l80 with 9.76 AAM rear and 3.73. I did not now they changed it with the 8 speeds.

According to all gm websites the option of a 3:73 gear ratio was no longer available from 2014 on as they went to the 8 speed transmissions.  2015 on the 5.3L was an option for the Max Tow Package.   I did finally find out that it was a 8.25 Differentials but there was an obscure company that did a swap and out the 9.25” differential housing and gears in one with minimal fab work.  I just can’t find anything about how or who it was.

Is this his even possible in the newer models.

I would love to see someone put one of those two housings in one of our trucks. If you decide to go the Currie or Spidertrax route keep us updated. That would be an awesome upgrade.

I'll let ya know what they say if either one ever returns a email.  Sent 2 this week to each company and no response yet from either one.  Pretty disappointed in that.
