Tailgate Bushing - Keep going bad

Recommended Posts

root cause seems to be poor material choice for the expected loading on the part.

I would take the origional bushing to a machinist and have him copy it out of steel or aluminum, or even make it from a piece of Delrin plastic.

What exactly did your dealer do to correct the issue?  Did they replace the tailgate or just grind or bend the part back to a round shape?

My 2016 2500 has had this issue since new.  They've probably replaced it half a dozen times if not more.  Last time they replaced the cup that bolts to the truck side that the tailgate sits in along with the bushing.  This replacement lasted the longest but not much more than a few weeks or so.

I’m not really sure but I think they bent it back in place. Tailgate wasn’t replaced even though that’s the fix I asked for. Once I showed them the issue and cause, they fixed it and I haven’t had an issue since.
