chrome to painted bumpers

Recommended Posts

I priced paint and vinyl around me and it was $1000 either way. This was for the bumper, grille and headlight trim. Powder coating is the cheaper option at $125 for the bumper alone.

The vinyl shop said that it would chip and recommended a clear bra.

It sounds like the vinyl shop wanted to make more money. lol Vinyl will be more resistant to chipping than paint.

Powder coating would be my pick, should match fairly well and be more resistant to chipping.

I've considered all 3 options and in my case all three have cons.
First if I paint my chrome I'm looking at $1400 and that's with me removing bumpers/grill/lights and have them paint. If I go with paint I'll need an extra $1000 for ppf because I don't want rock chips.
Option #2 is vinyl but I went to 2 different shops and neither had a color close enough that I was comfortable dropping $900 on.
Option #3 is powder coating and this option seems like the best at only $80 per bumper, only thing is the color is a shade or two lighter.

I’ve been looking around to do the same I was getting quotes for 500$ for vinyl wrapping all the chrome areas. Powder coating and paint I feel will chip fairly easily unless the chrome is sandblasted off.

wherever you got quotes from are all drunk except the powdercoat guy lmao most of the body shops here do 300 per body panel for paint.. that's prep paint etc. a bumper is no bigger than a body panel.
