Recommended Posts

I am looking to purchase a 32’ mallard travel trailer I was asking your guys opinion on to if you think it is to much on my truck it is rated at 9600 pounds. The trailer is 6416 dry weight 8600 GVWR. Do you guys think it will be fine?

I believe that as long as you are within the payload specs of your truck and the GCVWR, you will be fine.  Remember that your hitch weight combined with the weights of your accessories. passengers and cargo can exceed your payload very easily.   Stay within your limits and buy a good stabilizer/ anti-sway hitch setup.

I am looking at buy a similar sized camper and most had tongue weights that would be very close or exceed the payload of a Z71. I ended up with a Silverado with the max tow package since its my daily driver and I didn't want to go to a 2500.

I have the E4 Equilizer WDH. It’s still a debate I haven’t made my mind up I have a 24’ Koidak right now it weighs 4169 dry. The Truck handles it like a dream.

I have a similar sized trailer and a Blue Ox SwayPro.  This is proving to be an easy pull for my V6 so I supect your V8 would be fine with pulling the heavier trailer.  However the issue with the 1/2 ton is the payload.  When you add a family an all of their gear to your truck you reduce the available hitch weight.  Air bags, add-a-leaf, etc. may help the ride but they do not increase your legal limit.  I hope that GM adds a fuel friendlier gas engine to their 3/4 tons in the near future.
