It's only on with the headlights.  Dont think it bothers anyone.  I think they were just talking about changing it to an led light.

Yep. It’s an incandescent, softer ambient light that only comes on at night. Someone reported this being an LED on a 2018 module. This is the same ambient light that is in the door handle pockets of the front doors.
