Talk Me Into Installing This Borla Atak

Recommended Posts

After intense searching on CL and FB Marketplace, I finally found a good deal on a catback. I was really hoping for the Borla Touring or Corsa Touring, but what came up is the Borla Atak, not that I'm complaining! So I made the deal and it's currently sitting in my garage, brand new in the box, waiting for me to install it. I've watched a million videos (not literally but probably close to it!) on YouTube. I know it's gonna be loud. Do I want an exhaust that loud? How much louder is it going to be after it breaks in? What about when I tow? Am I going to go deaf when driving through the hills of Tennessee and Kentucky? When I was 20, I would have NEVER hesitated to install something like this, but that is not necessarily the case now. I know it's gonna sound BA, but I'm hesitant. Help!

I watched a vid of someone who installed the Atak on a F-150 5.0 and it was loud outside but not obnoxious inside according to the guy who owned it. I will say when I had the Corsa on my 2011 it was fine till I did the intake and then the drone in the cab became a bit obnoxious under load.

That's what I personally, would be most worried about , drone inside the cab.  But I'm not a good one to comment since I'm not much of a loud exhaust kind of guy.

I've got a corsa sport on my 5.3L paired with an S&B intake. My BBP tune took care of the chop from the AFM, and honestly I can hear my tires more than my exhaust. Living in Hawaii, I pretty much go through hills all the time, and with the AFM on, it felt like I was piloting a helicopter rather than driving a truck. Towing with my truck, you can definitely hear the exhaust note a lot more, however it's not excessive.

I have the Atak, and the cold start is pretty damn loud. Driving around you can tell when it goes into 4 cylinder mode. The drone is not terrible, but I ended up throwing in the range afm disabler to keep it in V8 mode. I have the dual side exit, so not sure if the sound would be different while towing with the dual rear exit. While in the cab under normal driving conditions the exhaust just has a nice deep tone, when you get on it you definitely are reminded that you have that exhaust on there.

You could try it and always throw the stock back on if you don't like it.  Then you will lose some if you sell it since it's not new anymore, but might be worth the hit for the risk.  Or if you can take a little time and try to trade it for a touring system that is what I would do.

Personally, I am in a similar boat as you, I would want a touring exhaust and have been casually looking around.  I would not have gotten that one just because I had loud exhaust on my Audi and it drove me nuts after a while, so I'm overly sensitive to it and will never go loud again.  Plus, I got a kiddo I don't want waking up every time I start the truck or hit the gas.

I went ahead and installed it today. Not sure why I was on the fence. It sounds amazing! Slight note change in V4, but no drone. Can barely hear it at idle, especially after driving it around a bit. Cold start will wake the neighborhood! It finally sounds like I have a V8 under the hood.

I had the GM Borla exhaust (touring) on my 16 6.2 and liked it so i put it on this new 2018 6.2  It is a fairly subdued exhaust note, just right for me, and just right I think for my neighbors too.

Note: If I had a neighbor with loud exhaust that woke me up early in the morning I would probably stuff some potatoes in his exhaust pipe Hahahahahaha

Hell yeah! That cold start is awesome. I don’t notice it while cruising anyways since I usually have music on, but that initial 0-40 it sounds like a truck.

Does anyone have either the atak or s type installed on their 5.3 Silverado in the Ohio area? Im on the fence between these two. Im afraid the atak would drone too much while towing a boat, but also afraid the s type won’t have the sound Im looking for when I get on it. I would love to hear it in person before pulling the trigger on one of these exhaust systems.
