My experience with Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound

 Hey everyone, I just wanted to share my experience using Meguiar’s ultimate compound on a mild scratch I had on the truck when purchased.  It was really hard to get good pictures with the iPhone, but I think it shows a pretty good before and after. And yes, in case you’re wondering, the scratch is in the exact same spot in both pictures. It made a huge difference. And with no micro scratches left on the clear coat around the scratch either. There is a residual ‘shadow’ of the scratch still in the clear coat, but it is in no way visible unless pointed out to you.  It drove me crazy, as every time I would walk up to the truck it would catch my eye. This only took four minutes to do with an applicator sponge, and a light wipe down after with a microfibre towel.  And I have a ton of the product left to use for probably the lifetime of the vehicle. I sold Meguiar’s years ago at a shop I worked at, and the stuff has never let me down.

Did you do the whole truck or just the spot with the scratch?  Is it just goop you rub on and wipe off?

Nice!  I have a very, very light scratch on my not even two week old truck. I will have to try this stuff out.  The scratch was probably there when I bought it but they had it so waxed up I missed it.

I use a Flex orbital w/ an orange pad using Meguires 105 or 205 depending on the scratch. Makes quick work of most scratches. Then I clay bar the whole truck and use a very light Menzerna super finish with an orange pad and then a white pad. Takes every little swirl out. Truck literally glows. Then seal it up. When I traded my '15 into the dealer, they said your '15 looks better that a new one here. Meguires is user friendly, great stuff.

FYI you should clay 1st then polish.... The Flex is a nice machine, I have a Porter Cable and it leaves a lot to be desired.... Meguires is no doubt good stuff I personally prefer Adams stuff if for no other reason than it's a small mom and pop shop but, when I need to grab something locally or I can't justify the expense for Adams stuff I usually go to Meguires.

Just the spot with the scratch for now. And yes, it’s the stuff you work into the paint, then let dry for a couple minutes and wipe off. I didn’t want to use the scratchx 2.0 as it’s more abrasive, and I wanted to be a little on the safer side. Also, the scratch looked fairly white, but it didn’t catch my nail too bad, so I tried this stuff knowing I could use it on the whole vehicle later on anyways.

Yes, of course. I just meant for attacking one scratch.  If I gave you a list of my prep and each step prior to polish you would think I am nuts. Powerwash, wash, degrease, inspect again, lights, then clay, then wash again. Totally dry, inspect, feel, test least aggressive polish (softness of paint) then start the step down to jeweling it in(usually 3 steps and pads).Then seal it up. On my Yukon XL top to bottom for pure perfection took three days including every inch in and out. But I am getting older and also take my time. Shoulders ain't what they used to be!!!!

I carry their quick detail spray with me when I travel. Works well when you run through a construction site and get asphalt spray down the side of your vehicle. Works on bugs as well. I usually need something to do while l wait for the wife to get ready to go while we’re traveling.

Sounds pretty similar to my process, I am pretty meticulous! I find detailing to be therapy....

Are you saying ScratchX is more abrasive?  Ultimate Compound is their 2nd most aggressive compound, only to be led by M105.  Careful when using UC by hand,  Ive seen pictures of guys that burned their finger tip paths into the paint.  Make sure to use your hand and apply even pressure.

I never thought to use painters tape on things you don’t want wax on great idea. What would you use to get wax off some of the plastic trim? I watched a video of a guy with a toothbrush for about 10 mins lol anything easier.

I use the painters tape to prevent the orbital from touching the trim and chrome mostly when I am polishing. It and keeps the compound off and out of the nooks and crannies too. I use clear glycerine type waxes and sealants never white. There are specific products that get wax residue off easily, I would give Autogeek a call.  Good luck
