Aftermarket bed lighting with oem install

Recommended Posts

It took several tries to get the diode to make proper contact. The exact time I did, I got the error. Took the diode out, still have the error. Disconnected the battery for 60 min, still have the error message... Have now gone through several restarts, and about 30 miles of driving and the message still comes on with every startup.

Can you share a pic of the diode install? I am presuming this is the diode for the Cargo/bed lights to automatically come on in reverse?

Yes and I already took the diode out. I took it out as soon as the error popped up. I did check it first and it was working, as in, when I shift in reverse, my cargo light button turned on.

Was it in the exact terminals as pictured?

Take it to a local shop or autozone and have the codes cleared with a scanner.

Seems like it could just be a fluke and its holding the code until it's cleared.

Yes, it was the right terminals, and I'm hoping it's just a fluke code that's being held. That's why I tried unhooking the battery... I have a little scan tool that can clear codes, but I don't know that will help me. I think I need the computer to clear the BCM, as this isn't an actual trouble code. But I don't know for sure.

Ran 1N4004 diode from reverse lights (Blue w/ Brown, BCM-BRN-26) to cargo lights (Brown w/ White, BCM-PNK-26). Striped end toward PNK26.  PINK has 27 slots, 27 is usually empty.  The included picture is mine, Fogs on with HIGHS, Cargo on with Reverse, and Puddles on with Interiors/Unlock/Open-Door. 5b0ddc413c951_3ModsonChevyBCM.thumb.jpg.ade8adb12e10513e8956441071ed673e.jpg

What did you do to get the puddles on? I'm hoping they will come on with my key fob. I put the diode in my co workers truck and he has the tow mirrors with the lights. They come on in reverse and with the key fob with the one diode.

The tow mirror puddle lights point back, and may blind you, in reverse.  My puddle lights point down, DL3 mirrors.  GRY1 is interior lights, GRY8 is Puddle Lights.  For your friend's truck, BRN26 to GRY8 (stripped end), may be "a bit of a stretch."  For with the key fob, he probably has the vehicle locator settings ON.

Keep in mind that the cargo/Reverse diode between the brown and pink plug is a switched ground circuit. The puddle lamp, interior dome lamps are positive circuits.

Finally got around to hooking up my lights and mounting them. Used a factory harness, a company in Texas makes the OEM clips for GM, so I called them and got what I needed to put the other side of the factory connector on the lights. Waterproof and OEM install so they work with the switch. Then put in the cargo diode mod so the lights work with the key fob. Thanks Pgamboa and Ravenkeeper!

You will need a few things but they are all cheap and easy to put together.

The website

https://www.mouser.com/m_Home.aspx

First the 2 clips

571-1-1703498-2

Then you need 4 of these

571-967067-2

And 4 of these as well

571-1718758-1-LP

You strip the wire, put the water proof boot on, then the metal tab. Then you slide them into the plastic clip.

Check your polarity before hand by sticking the end of the lights into the wireing harness on the truck. Remember which side is red and connect the connector. Now you can disconnect and you will know where to put your wires.

Also, the metal pieces only go in one way, look into the clip ahead of time and you will see what I mean. After I had my ends tegether, I put a little soap on the rubber boots to make it slide in easier.
