Faulty modules on 03's

Recommended Posts

My radio quit working one night while on vacation. All of the functions and display worked but no sound. Got in the truck the next morning and everything worked just fine. So I just let it go.

Then yesterday, I went to unlock the truck w/the key fob and it didn't work. Went inside and got the other fob and no work either! I opened the passenger door and the interior light did not come on. After getting in the drivers side and starting the truck I noticed that the window and door lock on the passenger side did not work. No backlighting on the switches and, with the truck running, no message on the DIC when the passenger door was opened. :seeya:

Long story short, the dealer had to replace the module that controls all of these functions. The dealer said that there is a recall on some of the modules but mine was not one of them, it was just faulty.

So, if you have an 03 and have any of these probs you might have a bad module that has been recalled. Take that sucker to the dealer!

My radio did the same the second day I owned it. Couldn't figure out why the controls worked but couldn't get any sound. I thought maybe it had something to do with the Passlock or whatever security GM is using. Turned off the ignition, restarted, and everything was fine. Haven't had any problems since, but then again it's only been a month. Also haven't had any other problems.

Should I consider going to the dealer to have them check/replace the module?

After what he told me, about a recall on some of the modules, It prob wouldn't hurt to have it checked. He also told me GM has come out with some new programming that is supposed to work some of the "bugs" out.

Or, you could always wait to see if the module goes out and risk all the probs I had when it went out!

I would bring it in. If you already had the radio prob, this might be the start of it! Just my .02!

thanks for the headsup...my radio did the same thing. couldn't hear radio, cd, or onstar. Next day it was fine. I'm saving up a few problems before I go in.

My radio in my 03 did this about 4 months ago one time. Shut everything off and it worked fine since, later I found that there is actually a TSB that address' this issue and calls for a reprogram. Well I used this TSB when I tried to install a factory 6 disc changer in my reg, cab, didnt work, but did get whatever updates, never had a problem with the raio since.

Hasn't happened yet but if it does then I will know what it is. I don't need any more confusion in my life. Thanks.

BTW, greyghost03, I live in Prairieville. I saw the LSU sticker and figgered you'd know about where I am.

Same thing happened to me. One night radio had no sound. Next morning, and everyday since, it has been fine. However, something else that happens to me is once in a while my seat will move out of my preset position. No one else drives my truck. I push the "unlock" button on the key fob - nothing. I push the "memory 1" button on the door panel - nothing. I re-adjust my seat and program the memory 1 button, and I'm good to go for another couple weeks or so. Could these problems be related?

They most prob are!

The dealer also updated my truck with some new programming that is a fix for alot tof the probs they are having with the 03's. You might want to take it in to the dealer and tell him you had the radio prob and he will prob put the new programming in!

Do you have the latest program update number? Maybe on your work order.

Thanks!

Thanks guys!!! You jinxed me!!! Guess what happened this weekend. No radio. Turn it on and off a few times with no luck. First thing I did was think of this thread. Let it sit a while and it finally started to work again. Called the dealer this morning and the guy said the same thing happend to HIS truck. He told me the TBS said to replace the radio. So he has a new one on order. I guess we will see.
