Load Causes F150 Aluminum Bed to Break

Looks like he forgot to tie it down. At least the tailgate stayed in place. I think the damage would be similar in a steel bed. I would like to know what the hell was in that bed and how fast he was making the turn. Looks like the bed liner stayed in one piece.

I used to work at a landscape supply yard. Had this guy come in with a 2015 F150 right after they started selling them. No bedliner or nothing, and he wanted like 5 yards of cobblestone, taking it half a yard at a time. I was always as gentle as possible when loading material, but his brand new bed was full of holes by the time he had brought home 2 yards:rollin:

At least he wasn't like most others with brand new trucks, insisting their half ton could carry 5k lbs because "it's a lease."

Blew out both sides! Something too wide and heavy?

I'd love to know what the heck he was trying to carry.

I'll bet this can be blamed on him for poor decisions as much as/more than the failure of the truck bed. Anything that can do that much damage better be secured if you are going to drive it on the road.

Strange that there's damage to both sides from a load shifting unless I didn't see the pics correctly. What concerns me is how little connects the sides to the rear taillight post. Those tiny spot-welds would be weak seeing how it's just aluminum.
I'm all for using aluminum on certain parts for weight savings but the truck bed is not one of those places.

Hard to tell what he was carrying or how it was tied down (if it way). Regardless the tear strength on aluminum isn't great from my understanding so its likely just a bunch of poor decisions or series of bad events that lead to this. That said I'd like to think that steel may have faired better. Who knows.

probably something small and extremely heavy

500ft spool of 0/0/0 copper feeder cable would do the trick

edit: I see the floor jack in the bed, i’ve got $10 on an engine or transmission, or maybe both

I think you win.

I did a google image search and found this link. (warning: shield your eyes, this is from the f150 forum)

https://www.f150forum.com/f118/fire-gm-toy-people-ford-haters-386479/

"guy had a heavy square object in the bed of his truck and he swerved to avoid hitting a dog and it slid left, then right"
