2019 Silverado & Sierra Horsepower Figures Leaked Or Not?

The GM part # is 84016022. I purchased this just after buying the Silverado in 16. I'ts not cheap by any means at $432.15 although it's the only CAI that will not have the Service Manager questioning you if you have a motor or ECM issue. It also doesn't need any special programming although I'm sure it could benefit from a tune. There is a GM sticker that comes with the kit that is legal in all 50 states plus has a C.A.R.B. #. I can say that it gives me around 2mpg better in the city and about the same on the road. The other thing that surprised me was under full throttle from a stop when it hits second gear it does chirp the tires...which it would do before I installed it. I bought mine from Suburban Chevrolet, "www.trunkmonkeyparts.com".

Perhaps this is what GM wants, to be like mopar. Create parts that should have been stock on the truck, and charge twice the price and profit more.

Either way its it’s kind of disappointing to see no real substantial change on the powertrain figures. But then again, if the 5.3 is doing great in terms of durability and performance, there’s no need to change it. My guess is GM is trying to really nail the MPG area to be competitive with Ford.

1. Yep, that how upselling works.

Point 2; They don't have to do much as none of the Ford engines appear to be able to meet what the GM engines can do mileage wise in the real world. I see lot's of guys post their numbers on Facebook truck groups & all the ecoboost engines are getting much worse than I do with my 5.3.

What??? It doesn't even replace the intake tube which is a key component to intake upgrades. Might want to hit up GM and let them know they just need an intake to gain 2mpg, could be well worth their time and sales advertising 2mpg better from just an intake... Maybe you can get a cut of the profits as I am sure that will drive sales!

With nearly a 500lb diet and two more gears I bet the reduction in 6.2L torque will be noticeable and was probably done to boost MPG. Also possible that the torque reduction was necessity to keep the 10speed within it operating limits when towing heavy loads.

500 lbs is nothing.  insignificant.  Maybe good for 1/4 of a MPG fuel economy.  If even that.

Everything I have read out there says 100lbs is generally good for about 1% in MPG give or take as a rule of thumb. So 500 lbs on a 5500 lbs truck is 11% in weight loss, not exactly "insignificant". Going by the rule of thumb noted above if the current truck gets 23 mpg then a 500 lbs saving can get it just over 1mpg back, or lets just say a round 24 mpg or 1mpg. That is just in weight, then you have aerodynamic savings from reduced drag that could be off set some by larger tires/wheels, ect. Either way 500 lbs isn't insignificant at all. In drag racing the rule of thumb is 100lbs equals roughly 1/10th in the 1/4 mile, so 500 lbs is again not insignificant but can be off set by taller tires, more unsprung weight, ect. Either way, it is pretty big and will have an impact (not to mention helping tow ratings and reducing wear and tear)...

Sorry to get back weeks later although I thought I show the "new" intake tube.
