Upper strut mount blown 3x in one year on drivers side

Hey guys, I bought my truck used last year. It’s lowered 5/7 on 24s with the McGaugheys kit. This is the third time I’ve blown the upper strut mount on the drivers side and I don’t understand why. I’m thinking about returning it to stock because this sucks! Any ideas what I can do or why this keeps happening?

My first guess is that the shocks are too long for your ride height.  When you hit bumps, it bottoms out the travel and shoves it up through the mount.  But that is just a guess.

Were all replacement shocks McGaughey's for this kit? Sounds indeed like a length miss match.

I was told it was the full mcgaugheys kit, installed by a reputable installer in Phoenix, and it was the shop owners truck. I’ll try and get a look behind the wheels and see if I can figure out the shock.

May need to cut bumpstop in half for more travel.

Did you ever fond the solution to this? I blew out a set a month after I lowered mine, put a new set in and the new set made it about a week and blew out again. I have the same kit on mine, but mine isnt set as low, mine is set to a 4/6

call mcgaughys or find a local shop that knows what they are doing, bet they could diagnose & fix it...

or get a better kit

 

lots of stories online about mcgaughys cust serv, & kits having issue.
