100K Services Advise

Recommended Posts

I am at 95K miles on the 07 Classic Silverado and starting to do things I think need completed.  Here is a list of what I think needs done.  Let me know if I am missing anything or really don't need to do at this mileage.

Completing draining the diffs and t-case this weekend. Where can i find the correct torque for the plugs and cover bolts?  15 Ft Lbs for T case plugs?  Diff plugs 24 Ft Lbs. Rear diff cover 30 Foot LBS and plug 24 Lbs?  This sound correct.

Tranny Service-  dealer told me today they only flush and don’t change the filter as their machine cleans the filter during the flush.  Told them I have heard horror stories after flush and was told that was years ago.  Now new machine no issues and it cleans the filter as well without removing pan.  Also, they told me dropping pan and change filter costs more than the 250.00 flush.  So, looked at tranny but don't know if I can do it or not.  Just got truck in my garage and will need to put on jack stands.  What is the process or troubles dropping the pan and getting it back on?  I see the exhaust may need to be disconnected from manifolds.

P/S flush – How difficult?  Will I get air in system after?

Brake Flush and coolant flush are things I am looking to have done as well.  Any suggestions on these?

Only thing else I can think of is spark plugs and wires even though truck is running fine.

Any input to help out so I don’t pay an arm and leg for these services?

Thanks.

Transmission,

Drop the pan, new filter and refill. NO flush IMO.

The exhaust maybe a problem.

My 2012 I had to undo the transmission cross member support, hold the trans up with a floor jack and pry the exhaust out of the way to get the pan off.

Mine has the flexible exhaust connector by the exhaust manifold so I could pry just enough to get the pan off.

If you don't want to do it yourself check out a local shop, Grease Monkey, Aamco.

Plugs and wires, yes IMO.

Coolant.

P/S Steering , look on YouTube for a video on it.

Brake flush is easy with two people.

If your capable  do it all and save some money.

flushing a transmission at 95K ? Do you pull a heavy trailer? or drive it like a car ? Are you planning on keeping the truck forever ? I would never flush a transmission unless its been in flood waters I've had many Chevy trucks go 250k to 300k just dropping the pan and changing the tranny oil in the pan with filter Flushing is a waste of time on a tranny that's not giving trouble Also I've never had problems getting the pan off on several model yrs as for service intervals I go  50k to 60 k seems to be about right for me

PS fluid, can do it a little at a time using the "turkey baster" method...no need to get fancy.

Agree with pan drop and filter only...

Brake fluid may be an issue if bleeders haven't been out in a while.

The flushing the trans thing started when they quit putting drain plugs in the torque converters. It's usually not necessary unless the trans has failed in some way, burned the fluid or clutches. Pan drop and filter change should be fine.
