The official ordering, production & delivery thread - 2019 Silverado / Sierra

Recommended Posts

So I made my order this past Friday and the dealer swore up and down it wouldn't be more than 8 weeks. I'm starting to doubt this greatly. Is there any rhyme or reason for those who wait 3, ,4 , or more months compared to those who get them in the 6-8 weeks? I know allocation can play into it, but the dealer said he had a free spot for me.

Seems to vary based on options, and lately there is the "chip" issue.

As to delivery time, my order was placed December 23rd, was accepted and placed on constraint.  On February 2nd, my order was resubmitted minus running boards (constraint item), was immediately accepted and I picked it up March 1st.  But that was before the chip issue.

I went fairly vanilla LT (skipped the running boards) and the 5.3 without the fuel management/chip. I'm hoping being fairly plain helps me out. I pretty much couldn't find a vehicle that matched what I wanted/price I wanted to pay in the whole state! I just hope there is some sort of GM incentives when this thing finally rolls out with demand this high.

Full size trucks and full size suv's are not affected by chip shortage per GM as all resources are going to those vehicles, their most profitable models.

GM builds what they call pattern orders based on available parts and if a dealer/customer opts for one of those vehicles, it move fast into production.  I was talking wit the a friend who sell them and commented why all the I4 trucks?  He said, GM is letting us have all we want but with the higher trim levels, High Country and Denali on constraints, take what we can get. They got in 4 GMC's all the same equipped, trim 3SB Elevation, 2.7L engine and few options (3).  They can choose the color but how they are optioned is up to GM.  Surprising they sold 3 in the first week they had them, 3 were black..

Does anyone happen to know if you can you delete items that come in a package? IE running boards?

I also did color matched fender arches.

Ordered a white 1500 AT4, standard bed w/ diesel, premium package w/o sunroof.

That’s only part of the story.  The are “unaffected” because they are shipping 5.3L with 6/8spd transmissions without the chips.  Trucks with the 10spd transmission are being held and for a long time.  There are less of those trucks being built compared to all of the other configurations, and they are still building  them but not shipping them, so they continue to say that production is running “full speed”.

I know this has been beat to a pulp - but I put a deposit on a Trail Boss my dealer had headed to their inventory back in beginning of March. Since then the truck hasn’t moved. It’s on hold with event code 4D00 for about 4-5 weeks now.  Dealer is leaning on microchip shortage for reasoning.  GM chat yesterday said it was “completely assembled and awaiting shipment.”

What are the chances this thing gets out of factory before mid May? My current lease expires on 5/15, so time is tight.  Can’t wait for it, just pushing the envelope is all.

Thanks for any input! Long time read, first time post!

Is your current lease a GM? If yes, you should be able to get a lease extension.

It is! 18 Sierra SLT - I’ll have to look into what lease extension entails. Thanks for the heads up! Fingers crossed it’s all for not, and it magically appears soon!

Slim to none are the chances you will see it by mid-May.  I might be wrong but there are literally thousands of these things sitting waiting on parts.  I have no idea why either because some of them are shipping out with no delay.  There seems to be no rhyme or reason why some are hold and some aren't.

I'd ask your dealer if they have any that aren't currently at 4D00.

Damn! Dealers been pretty helpful, just not sure they are very experienced in this, and are kind of small being in Vermont.

Yes you can get a lease extension I did on my 17 you keep paying the same payment that is set forth in your agreement but the miles stay the same no matter how many months you extend it out. If your finance through GMAC it’s pretty straightforward I did it via chat.

With all the issues going on with delivering these new units I would hold off and look at a 2022 but I imagine the same issues. Will continue on but let’s hope not good luck in getting your new truck.

I feel very fortunate that I was able to take delivery of my new RTS crew cab in February I ordered it in December.

Timing called for me to get one before July so I went ahead and pulled trigger on the '21. I would hope I get it in before that and that the rebates/factory deals will be kind despite the demand. My dealer has yet to get me an order number though.

fwiw, GM intends to build 2021 models till 9/24/21 as that is communicated to dealers as the build-out date...

There is a nation-wide shortage of Rail cars and shippers are experiencing extremely high demand and that's straining the logistics systems.
