2017 Silverado 1500 2LT heated steering wheel additon and problems

Recommended Posts

Sorry, I thought you wanted the Cocoa one. Read this/his add. He also has black ones listed. The 1500 wheel has been gone for a while. This is the same one that I bought. It is for the 2500 so all you have to do is take the weight out of your steering wheel and install it in the 2500 wheel. It is held in with 4 yellow rubber isolators. Push them from the back and they pop out. Position it in the new wheel and I used  a ratchet extension in the center of each to get them to pop in the 2500 wheel.

OK , so I contacted autowoods from my ebay acct that I bought my wheel from and this was his response to using the 2500 steering wheel:

exactly.. the weight transfers very easily. non electrical part. I have about 50 pieces on my next shipment from MI, but that will be at the end of Feb or early march. am building a warehouse because am tired paying storage fees for years. have a very large shipment (full trailer) of GM truck steering wheels. some heated, mostly non-heated.

So the weights are the only thing different, in that case I would make the swap.  I also got in touch with autowoods as you suggested and like you said he was very helpful. I asked him what the difference was between the two {Denali- Sierra and Silverado)  he told me, and I am  paraphrasing ;that the sierra , denalis had more bling ie.. chrome- design .This Is the message he left me:  "I do have heated wheels in black, but they were designed for Denalis and Sierra. They are fully compatible with Silverados and suburbans. Would you like me to pull one from warehouse and send you some pictures? " He didn't mention that he had any wheels for the 2500. I will wait and see what he digs up from his warehouse . Thanks for the help in getting me a little closer to my goal.

I'd be interested in seeing the pictures as well.  Thanks!  Has anyone tried to order a new 2500 from gm?  Are they gone as well?

I email autowoods seller on eBay..  Said he had one black heated wheel that had a small blemish/damage from removing the airbag...  He is sending pictures of that one..  Told me the same as above, that he was probably getting some new ones around the end of Feb or March...

I got my Heated steering wheel in, it took about 3 hrs some cut up knuckles from running the wires. I found the hardest part was trying to get the air bag off. I tried the phone idea from Tinkering Fox but the phone kept falling to the floor. Then getting the right size screwdriver, not to long and not to short and the right angle to slide the screwdriver in. The wire spring that holds the airbag on has more tension than I thought so I wasn't pushing down hard enough "Till I got angry with it" and when I got one side freed up then turned the wheel to do the other side the first side popped back in, this happened a couple of times pissed me off, but after that everything else went as TF's video showed. Anyone that's gonna do the swap watch Tinkering fox video a few times it's a big help!

So if you have the 2 wire plug on the column wiring harness it still will not work? I have watched a you tube vid they say you may have to run the wiring to the left hand junction block my 14 Silverado has the the plug taped to the wiring harness below the column

You may or may not have power to the 2 wire plug under the column. Pgamboa told me to test it with the key on and I think he said engine running I don't remember, and use a test light to see if you have power to it. Fortunately I did have power. I see you have a 2014, you may have to run power. Lets hope for the best and you can plug and play as well.  Good luck. Have to say being that its been colder than ....here its the first button I push now after I start the truck.  I side with the people that believe it was money well spent. I also had fun putting it in along with a few choice curse words.
