Transmission cooler hoses

Recommended Posts

I have a 2015, 2500, and I just noticed one of the transmission cooler lines is leaking. I called my dealership to see if that's something still covered under warranty, and I was told they never were, that they are considering a wear items???? [emoji19]

Really??

I have owned GM trucks since 1991. Every single one has had tranny cooler lines leak except the 1990. Since 2003 every truck has had leaks as soon as it got to minus 35c and I started them. Never leaking alot but more like sweating. Once the first part of the warranty is done they are not covered by drive train warranty. After the third set in three years on my 2006 3/4 ton, i got the new ones and had a hydraulic shop put steel braided line in place of the rubber and they never leaked again. Now I just let them sweat until it gets really bad and them replace them.

Interesting comment on the temperature component. It's been cold here for many weeks, - 15 to -30* Celsius.

It never happened until it got cold out. Pretty much every truck every winter. 6 trucks consistently. I talked to a mechanic friend about it. It doesn't happen as much in warmer places. But it is cheaper for GM to replace a few on warranty up here than to spend money on better hoses for all the trucks made. As he put it, all the vehicles sold in Canada do not add up to what is sold in California alone. Seemed that the magic temperature is -30 to - 35c . Or colder of course ha ha.
