Oil Leak

Recommended Posts

Last week when I was outside changing the grille on my truck, I noticed an oil leak. I have not been seeing oil on the ground anywhere but was a wet spot that has been covered in dust. So today, I go out to the garage to investigate. It looks to be coming from the drivers side front. I put the truck on ramps and took several pictures. I know how this forum works so it will take a bit to get them loaded to this thread.

It's hard to tell where it is coming from. It appears to be coming from the radiator area. Last summer I had the condenser changed out because it was leaking. I thought I cleaned all of that oil up. Maybe I missed some of it and that is what I am seeing. Just a few weeks ago, my radiator cracked and was leaking on the passengers side and they replaced it. I thought I cleaned all of that up when I came home also.

Today this is what I am seeing. Sliding under the truck from the front on drivers side looking up. You can see the bottom of the washer bottle so you can get oriented.

Oil Leak 7. This is the block near the oil filter where the line that is leaking originates. From the picture above that shows the leak at the crimped fitting, both lines and the block have to be replaced to correct this leak. Not sure this would fall under drive train warranty.

Good Luck. I just took my 18 6.2l in with 1500 miles leaking coolant drivers side rear of the motor by oil filter. Dealer called back and they think its the head or head gasket. They wont know until they tear it apart.

I went in to get glasses out of the truck since it was going to be an extended stay at the dealer. Head was off and they think its the head bolt but they aren't sure. It was very unsettling seeing the engine already torn apart on a new truck. It makes me wonder how long I will actually keep this truck.

I know this isnt the same as yours but I understand.

By searching the internet, I think I have found the hose set in part number 15809049. Amazon carries it for $93.78. I bet it is leaking at the engine oil cooler also and running down. Now, I just need to locate the engine oil cooler. Surely, the engine oil cooler is not broke also. Condenser and radiator, why not the engine oil cooler.

I am at 97500 miles and almost out of my extended warranty and power train warranty. I don't think, warranty would cover the hoses leaking however.

Edit: now I am not so sure that part will fit my truck according to Amazon. Having a hard time locating anything on GM websites.

Finally, I came across a thread that says the oil cooler lines and the transmission lines both go to the radiator. I have not verified this but I did call my dealer just now to let them know I have an oil leak after the radiator replacement. In my mind, it is on them to fix that end of the leak.

If your truck has an oil cooler than its definitely a possibility that one of the lines are leaking.  I had to replace my trans cooler lines at about 75k but I didn't need to do the oil lines.  Take it to the dealer and see what they say about it.  If its a line then you're probably right about the extended warranty not covering it.  At least the part isnt a terrible price.
