Warranty voided with aftermarket sunroof?

Recommended Posts

This looks severely after-market to me.   You might shine and baby your truck but if you decide to sell/trade, I’m of the opinion you’re gonna take a big hit.  You might think now, “This is my forever truck.”  But we all say that.  Every time we buy a new truck.

You know, an option to increase that summertime airflow that would probably INCREASE your ultimate value would be to install a sliding rear window...

I'm 21 so this is my first ever truck and I will keep it until the wheels fall off. I'm contemplating getting it done but also a few factors come into play.

I support ya fully.  I’m not quite 3X your age and trying to help by pointing out something for you to think about.

Consider all sides of every situation and ultimately you’ll make many fewer mistakes than I did.

I can easily call tomorrow and set up the appointment to get it done but I'm also thinking long term. I'm trying to tastefully mod my truck. Let's say 10 years down the line will I still be happy with my choice of adding a sunroof.

Some trucks come from the factory with sun roofs.  Do they build these cabs differently?  I can't imagine a noticeable impact on structural integrity with an aftermarket sun roof unless it is huge and stretches from pillar to pillar.
I understand you can't get a sunroof in a 2500/3500 with the snow plow package...maybe as simple as the beacon? I was told it was structural by a dealer...but I'm not convinced why?

Some these responses in these threads always blow me away... If you decide to get a sunroof cut in then make sure your go with a reputable installer. As a matter of fact? Have your dealer recommended their installer b/c 90% of dealers outsource sunroof installs which does not void your warranty. I have the roof installed that your looking to get installed and it doesn’t leak unlike all factory installed roofs. Factory installed roof are actually made to leak and is installed with a drainage system... Also, if your looking to go 10 years without any issues with your new Chevy then good luck. I’m on my 6th GM vehicle and you be lucky to surpass 50k miles without and issue unless your high mileage rider. Also do your research on the brand roof being installed. I went with Webasto version of the spoiler roof and will be adding a second one soon. A few years back (2011) the Hollandia 700, 600 and TVS 900 Webasto models had a recall so stay clear of them... As for structural protection, it’s no different from the factory installed roof. About a month ago, my in-laws got t-boned in there 2015 Escalade and the factory installed roof popped out and landed on a passing vehicle while my in-laws walk away with no injuries... Hope this helps!!! Bottomline is if your worried about the risk then don’t mod your truck b/c risk comes with most any mod...

Months ago I went to my dealer and asked them where they send trucks to get leather done and they recommended a shop where they also do sunroofs. I didn't ask the brand of the sunroof, I just got a few details. 3 years or 60k miles from sunroof manufacturer and if leaks do occur the shop will take care of it.

Yeah I saw the post. The shop has been around for 35 years. I'm 50/50 on the sunroof, I'm going to focus on other mods first and when I'm done with everything else I still have the itch for the sunroof then it's getting done.

Step bars on a truck 3" off the ground?

When it is actually lowered to a 4/6 drop but until then, I paid for them... Well actually they were added on and installed for free as part of my deal on the truck. So when I take them off I’ll be post’m for sale... SMDH...
